As always, the new month brings in newly refreshed plans. The whiteboard has been revived, and things have been started. Day 2 of Inktober has just been drawn. I even wrote a 750Words entry yesterday! I still need to properly balance it all, but I'll get it soon enough. Today's going to be a bit tricky as we're heading to the opera today and I'll probably only have an hour or so for working once we get back home, but I'm getting in what I can.

I'm still annoyed at that unknown idiot who tapped my car in the lot at my job yesterday and left a dent and a scrape but no note, but not overly angry. I've already set up a claim with my car insurance, and if needed I can get footage from work (I confirmed that our store saves footage for a good long time). It's not a huge ding, but enough that it needs fixing and touchup paint. And it's high enough that I'm sure that it's either a minivan or a truck, and someone who can't drive for shit. But the point here is that I'm not letting it ruin my day unnecessarily. It is what it is, the car is still drivable, and nothing's broken. And as I've said before: this is annoyance. You'd know if I was actually angry or pissed off.

Other than that, all is well here. Hope everyone has a good week!

Conversation on Friday:

Me: Ok, so we're going to the opera tonight (Madame Butterfly), and we're going out for dinner on Saturday for our anniversary. Any plans for Sunday?
Emm: Not that I know of.
My email: *ding* Oh hey, here's a reminder from SF Opera that you have plans to see La Traviata on Sunday.
Me: ...?
Me: *checks Yahoo calendar and email* *finds that I bought tickets for it back in November*
Me: Oh. Well. I guess that answers that question.
Emm: More opera? Yay! And also? You doofus. *laughs at me*

So yes...our weekend has primarily been about Going Everywhere. Tonight's anniversary dinner is at Café de la Presse downtown, where we're finally using the gift certificate my sister got us last Christmas. Should be fun! The only downside being downtown parking is laughable, so we're just going to hop on the 1 California bus a few blocks from there. I'm hoping the bus back isn't too bad, considering it's Pride weekend and everyone's going to be bus-hopping tonight and tomorrow, but I'm sure we can make do. And we'll be bussing it tomorrow for the second opera as well (Pride festivities take place at City Hall, which is right across the street from the Opera House). Thankfully that one's an afternoon show, so travel shouldn't be too bad.

This puts a damper on any writing plans I may have possibly had, but I'm not too bothered by it. It's fun times together (which somehow always includes getting coffee and/or going to a bookstore as well), and July is nearly empty for us until end of month. There's a possibility we may met up with A's parents, but that's still up in the air.

In the meantime...hope everyone's having a good weekend! :)

The weekend has arrived! And I'm quite happy about it. The work week wasn't exactly a crazy one (although there were a few frustrating moments of work WTFness), but I'm happy it's the weekend nonetheless, because we have some fun events planned.

Today is going to be a hot one in the city, which is actually a rarity. It's supposed to get into the triple digits inland, which means it'll at least get up to the 80s here. It's actually kind of nice when it gets toasty here, because it doesn't get humid, and there's always a breeze from somewhere. So yay for nice days off!

So today we'll be heading down to Fillmore Street, either by foot or by bus, we haven't decided yet, to do some shopping and lunching. Japantown is actually a short walk down Fillmore from California, so I can head over to Kinokuniya and pick up the last volumes of Fullmetal Alchemist that I need (and the next of Saturn Apartments, which I'm finding quite lovely). After that we'll have lunch at Inferno Pizza, which Emm says had a wonderful beer list. I can't promise anything, but chances are good that books will be purchased on the way home.

Tomorrow we're going to the opera to see John Adams' Nixon in China, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it. I've been a fan since hearing it in college (and remembering Main Street Records in Northampton was all over it when it was released back in 1988), and I quite enjoy Adams' stuff (check out his Short Ride in a Fast Machine, which I could probably describe as "contains every single instrument in the symphony, including the small bits of stuff they found in the back cupboard, and playing the equivalent of exclamation points"). He's quite diverse and experimental, but a lot of fun.

I think somewhere in between I might get some writing done as well... :)

Tickets for Donizetti's Daughter of the Regiment just went on sale today and WE GOT TICKETS! :D We kind of figured they'd go quick because this one's a big deal... :)

That, and this one was the primary reason we'd originally wanted to buy season tickets, so we could see this one...that idea fell through, but we're happy we got this one! :)

ITEM: Been listening to a lot of ambient stuff today while working from home...Boards of Canada's Geogaddi and Campfire Headphase as well as Global Communication's Pentamerous Metamorphosis and 76:14. Felt I needed some non-disruptive stuff to listen to while catching up on some work-related projects. Now moving on to albums currently filed under "love them but haven't listened to them in quite some time", which is more what I normally listen to when I'm working at home. Just finished listening to Curve's Cuckoo and currently listening to Oasis' Heathen Chemistry, which I really think is one of their best post-Morning Glory albums.

ITEM: After killing my right shoulder with my backpack for quite some time, I'm switching back to my red Skechers messenger bag. Haven't used that for over a year--I know this because the last time I used it, I was still working down on the 5th floor--so I figure it might help, since I have to shlep my work stuff home with me. Will see how this goes!

ITEM: If the weather stays nice this weekend (I've heard it will), Emm and I may end up going to the Botanical Gardens in GGP. It's been quite some time since we've gone there, and it's always a nice romp through there. I may even take pictures to post!

ITEM: As predicted, my coworkers think I'm crazy for buying all those opera tickets. ;)

ITEM: Holy cats, I updated my writing blog!! I really should update that more...

ITEM: Fnord.

And...er...that's it for now. :p

ITEM: Our neighbor across the street needs to get a life. At all hours of the day, we see him standing at the window, staring out, and talking or playing with his phone (and hey, surprise, he's doing that right now!). One of these days I'm just going to stare at him until he gets the point and steps away from the window for once.

ITEM: Most errands done today! I dropped off packages while Emm went food shopping, laundry is done, and a list is being made for our trip down to Target tomorrow.

ITEM: Yay! The scaffolding outside our windows facing Bay Street are now gone! They took them down earlier yesterday while we were at work and moved them further down to the other end of our building. We can see again! And I have to add that I'm amused by the fact that the workers did a cursory wiping down of the windows before they tore down. :p

ITEM: Did some major computer cleaning using MalwareBytes Anti-Malware cleaner, which got some really good reviews on C|Net. It found a good amount of crap that CCleaner, McAfee, and everything else missed. Also updated IE to version 8, which seems to be working okay at the moment. I think I'll keep Firefox for now, just to have an extra browser if something craps out on me again.

ITEM: NINE OPERAS. Did I say NINE? Six of them on consecutive weekends? Yes. Yes, I did. Verdi's Il Trovatore, Puccini's Il Trittico, Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio, Donizetti's Daughter of the Regiment, Strauss' Salome, Verdi's Otello, Gounod's Faust, Puccini's The Girl of the Golden West, and Wagner's Die Walkure. The entirety of the 2009-10 Opera season, and we just bought tickets for all of them in a package deal. Cuz we're cultured n' stuff. Just thought I'd bring up that fact, in case you see me whimpering in the corner somewhere at some point, twitching and humming some aria off-key. :p

ITEM: As usual, today's been one of those days when the weather is alternately warm, cold, rainy, cloudy, foggy, clear, sunny, and, for about five minutes, everything in between. Gotta love San Francisco springs!

More later...I go write now...

Two Things

1. In which we preplan our autumn Sundays

Okay, so we just dropped $360 for a subscription to the 2009-10 season of the San Francisco Opera. Six weekends in a row (and three weekends in June) we're going to see such things as Il Trovatore, Daughter of the Regiment (I'm REALLY looking forward to that one), Salome, and Die Walkure. Yes, I will be squirming in my seat for four hours as I try not to succumb to the temptation to sing "Kill the Wabbit". Partly an early birthday present for [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon, partly to prove the disturbing fact that I actually enjoy operas. Go figure.

2. In which I start getting frustrated at the Internets

Does anyone else get a frustrating pop-up to the effect of "res://iframe.dll" or something when they go to Amazon.com or some other secure sites? Is there a way to get rid of the damn thing? I'm pretty certain it has to do with going to secure sites (the ones that start with https rather than http), and I haven't quite figured out how to turn the damn thing off, even when going to the Internet Options/Security/Sites menu.

Of course, my browser has been going all wiggy the last few weeks, and I'm almost convinced that Microsoft is doing it on purpose to get people to upgrade to IE8 (funny that it just got released yesterday...good timing, eh?). I'd switch to Firefox or Google Chrome, but I'm not exactly happy with the set up on those, especially Chrome. That, and I'm just wondering how safe they are with spyware and whatnot. Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations?

Feeling SO much better today. Slept a lot better and took a Claritin just before heading out.

For the third year in a row, [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon and I went to SF Library's Big Book Sale over at Fort Mason, and spent a decent amount of money on random fun things we found. Emm definitely found a lot of good stuff, but I managed to find some neat things too:

Kate Elliott, The Burning Stone (Crown of Stars v3)
Kate Elliott, The Gathering Storm (Crown of Stars v5)
Kate Elliott, In the Ruins (Crown of Stars v6)
Mercedes Lackey, The Free Bards
The AP Stylebook and Libel Manual, 1992 ed. (yeah, it's out of date, but a good reference book nonetheless)

and the following CDs for $1 each:

Erasure, The Two Ring Circus
Madonna, Ray of Light
O-Positive, toyboatToyBoAtTOYBOAT
The Sundays, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic
Matthew Sweet, Girlfriend
Toad the Wet Sprocket, Fear

We then made a trip to the Target down in Daly City to return something and also pick up some more "Blood Orange" Jones Sodas (unlike the disgusting Holiday Packs, these are quite good and have a pirate cat on the box)...then over to BevMo to buy some of the indie sodas they have there (I'm currently drinking an AJ Stephans' Birch Beer. YUM!).

We were going to stop at In n' Out to have lunch, but alas it looked like everybody else on the entire peninsula had the same idea and it was PACKED, so we passed. We did make up for it by going into the completely empty Krispy Kreme in the same parking lot (some people have no taste, I tells ya...) and doing a doughnut run instead. No In n' Out burgers...is teh sad... :(

So! What else is on tap this weekend?

Going to see The Bonesetter's Daughter at the Opera House tomorrow afternoon--one of my somewhat delayed birthday presents to Emm (the other was tix for Rock n' Roll). Should be fun! :)

Also, before we put some of these new books away, we're probably going to do another book purge--which means sometime in the next few weeks or so we may be posting another giveaway list. Stay tuned!

And that's about it for now...more soon!
