The last couple of days at the Day Job were rather hectic and frustrating, given that it felt like I was doing at least four peoples' jobs on top of mine, so today we ended up sleeping in a lot later than expected. That kind of put the kibosh on our initial plans of taking the bus down to the Mission to do some yarn shopping, so instead we did a run to Safeway, a walk down to Geary for lunch, then some house errands.

One such errand has been cleaning up those small garden plots in front of our house. Both of them have had small trees planted there (though one is pretty much dead and needs to go) but were overgrown with weeds and trash, so we cleaned them up and planted a few small plants, and today we laid down some small pebbles make it look nicer and keep it all from washing away. It's kind of inspired by the same plots that were in front of our old place. We're thinking eventually we'll pull that one dead tree and put some kind of bushy plant there in its place. It looks nice so far!

Also done today: terrifying the cats by doing some desperately needed vacuuming. Sorry kitties!

Meanwhile, it's the start of a new month which means yet another fresh start! I've actually been doing pretty good regarding the writing lately (with room for improvement, of course) but due to Day Job stuff and vacation laziness, I've fallen behind on a few other things. I've also been bad and having "cheat days" on the 750Words site (long story short, I post a blog entry from some years ago and add some current comment to it) instead of actually doing NEW words, so that needs to change. I also haven't been giving myself enough time for the art and music either, so I need to fix that.

So yeah, all told 2026 is doing just fine but I can be better than this. Heh.

As always, the new month brings in newly refreshed plans. The whiteboard has been revived, and things have been started. Day 2 of Inktober has just been drawn. I even wrote a 750Words entry yesterday! I still need to properly balance it all, but I'll get it soon enough. Today's going to be a bit tricky as we're heading to the opera today and I'll probably only have an hour or so for working once we get back home, but I'm getting in what I can.

I'm still annoyed at that unknown idiot who tapped my car in the lot at my job yesterday and left a dent and a scrape but no note, but not overly angry. I've already set up a claim with my car insurance, and if needed I can get footage from work (I confirmed that our store saves footage for a good long time). It's not a huge ding, but enough that it needs fixing and touchup paint. And it's high enough that I'm sure that it's either a minivan or a truck, and someone who can't drive for shit. But the point here is that I'm not letting it ruin my day unnecessarily. It is what it is, the car is still drivable, and nothing's broken. And as I've said before: this is annoyance. You'd know if I was actually angry or pissed off.

Other than that, all is well here. Hope everyone has a good week!

I fear I'm lagging ever behind with my writing, and it's nobody's fault but my own, really. Just me giving into a lot of distraction. So with it being the first of the month once more, I'm going to try again to reel it all in and Get Things Done. Follow the whiteboard schedule again and figure out a way to make it work around my odd Day Job schedule.

Was also thinking that I haven't used the 750Words site in a while. I purposely stopped using it when I got to the sort-of finish lines of the two novels I was working on, just to take a break. I'd like to pick it up again, though. Even if it's just random incomplete ideas or incoherent rambling. Something that I can zip out in a half hour that won't interfere with the revision work I'm currently doing.

Other than that...? Not much to report! Hope everyone has a wonderful new month! :)

First of September already!  Time for me to recharge and aim high once more on my writing goals.  Ganbatte!

Doing some e-cleaning this morning during the slow moments of my Day Job...lots of email subfolders (both personal and work) that needed sorting out, deletion, or archiving.  Keeping a positive spin on it all, hitting all the daily goals as I can and minimizing the distraction.  Doing it Now instead of When I Get Around To It.  The forward motion is definitely an excellent motivator.

Listening to the new tunage that's out today but being a bit more choosy about what I download now.  (Sure, I say that now...)  A suggested we start budgeting ourselves a bit more, and I agree.  I've always held back a bit with my weekly music purchases...during the days when I'd do my weekly run to Newbury Comics, I'd make sure I didn't spend more than $70.  (More often I'd spend more like $40.)  Now that my purchases are all digital, my weekly cap hovers around $50 but is usually more like $35.  Still, I do find that I'll download albums I like the sound of, maybe listen to it for a few weeks, and then not touch it for quite some time.  Not that it's necessarily wasteful, as I'm putting money in musicians' pockets, but I have to remember that unlike my cd buying days, I can't bring mp3s to a record store for cash or credit if I no longer want them.  And besides, I'm signed up for Amazon Prime, so I have unlimited streaming going on.  If I'm on the fence on certain albums, perhaps I'll listen to them a bit more and make a choice sometime down the line.

ANYHOO.  In other news, San Francisco is getting hit with a heatwave and none of us here, especially on the normally cool and foggy side of town, are used to it.  It's ridiculously warm right now, and I may just break out my shorts for the first time in however long it's been.  It's not often that it hits close to 80F here in the Richmond.

SO!
