...and
emmalyon is already in bed, when I hear
BOOOM!
BOOOM!
and then silence.
Then me saying "WTF?" as I walk into the bedroom.
Then people across the street yelling "It's on the roof! It's on the roof!"
I look out the window and see flames. Both Emm and I think that it's across the street, but then I realize, it's actually the reflection of our building.
My first thought, other than the both of us getting out of the apartment as quickly and safely as we can?
Shit. I really should have my writing with me.

Well, as far as I know, it was a transformer blowing. Pretty frikkin' loud, I tell you. People are back inside, but the fire trucks are still out there and I've a feeling that they're going to be out there a little while longer.
So yeah, that was our evening.
I think we're going to call in late to work tomorrow.

Date: 2006-06-14 06:05 am (UTC)I saw a transformer explode once when I was very young (like five years old young). It shot flames across the street into our neighbor's upstairs bedroom. Much expensive damage was done.
I wathed the fire trucks come and put out the fire, wide-eyed, expectant. My cat had died earlier that week. These incidents, with the hindsight of many years of life experience, were obviously unrelated. However, at the time, I remember thinking that somehow the explosion was caused by my cat no longer being there to prevent it, and that he had somehow held those forces at bay through his cat-nature.
Much later, a different cat of mine drowned in the same neighbor's pool, chased there by their nefarious Cocker Spaniels. Every time he would surface from the pool and try to escape, there would be the barking faces of two dogs sending him back into the too-clean water.
RIP George (1978)
RIP Remus (1995)
I like cats. They are some of my favorite people.

Are you still writing long-hand, or typing on the computer? If you are typing on the computer maybe you need to look into one of those web-based internet "hard-drives" where you can save all your writing as a separate back-up to your computer.
