[livejournal.com profile] emmalyon and I went to The San Francisco Zoo today and spent a good four or so hours walking around and checking out the animals. That zoo is BEEYOOOTIFUL. Highly recommended to everyone, especially kids, if you're out this way.

So without further ado, here's some pix for your enjoyment!

African Savanna...one of their more popular attractions

A Lion, Post-Feeding

A Siberian Tiger, Post-Feeding

A Sleepy Snow Leopard

A Kitty Personal Ad...?

Meanwhile, in Lemurland...these little guys are surprisingly LOUD when they start making noise...

...and one picture for [livejournal.com profile] head58...

More pictures soon! :)

Are the lion and tiger pictures from behind-the-scenes holding areas, or is that a public area? I don't like when exhibits look like that in public view - it gives that old-time cagey look. We've been there, but it was so long ago I don't remember a lot.

They're from a public area, but they only bring them there for feeding. They can come and go through "pet doors" any time they choose. :)

I did get a picture of a lion pacing back and forth in that building, but it came out blurry...he definitely had a "hey, look at me!" pride to him...

Mmm, pride but more likely the caged animal OCD. That is depressing as hell.

I remember M & I were in a zoo somewhere and there was a bear pacing back and forth along one side of his fence even though it had a good sized enclosure. Damn depressing.

Sigh. I have such a love hate relationship with zoos.

Pacing can sometimes be excitement, sometimes stress, and sometimes boredom. But it can be damn depressing to watch. Bears really bother me in zoos, overall. It's not the ideal place for any animal, but bears have *such* broad ranges in the wild, and I don't think they do so great in captivity. I've been kinda 'zoo sad' lately, too.
