Utter Randomness...
Jun. 8th, 2004 08:57 pmIt's been an uneventful couple of days here at the ol' Homestead.
.....
Writing comes in fits and starts, as it has over the past couple of weeks. I'm not sure if it's because I've made a horribly wrong turn in the plot sometime back and just never noticed it until now, or if it's because I'm completely winging it, following the very barest of plotlines. Either way, there were a few days where I got close to nothing done (for me, that's 500 words or less), and other days where 1000 or even 1500 words in the same amount of time flow with ease.
Crazy field, this writer's gig. I never quite know what I'm doing.

Still mourning over the lost of one of the best hard rock bands in the world EVAR. Well, at least I have their--
--WHAT AM I SAYING?!??
.....
In other music news, the Brady Bunch-like supergroup that we've all been waiting for, Velvet Revolver, came out with their cd today. 'Contraband', I believe it's called. For those curious, it's Scott 'I'm sober' Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots, and Slash, Duff and Some Other Guy from Guns n' Roses. From the one song I've heard, I'm guessing it's the same thing that happened with Audioslave (hey, I sense a theme here...)--the groovy pop grunge of STP with the hard edge of GnR. I'll most likely pick it up at some point and give y'all the review.
Other Notable releases this week:
Chumbawamba, Cowboy Junkies, B.C. Gilbert (guitarist of Wire), PJ Harvey, YET ANOTHER Dave Matthews live cd, Ministry (wow, so soon?), Sonic Youth, and believe it or not, a Greatest Hits package for The Fall! :D
New Cure album at the end of the month, kids! :D :D :D :D
.....
Sometimes I scare myself. I'm finding myself strangely swayed by conlangs. I don't really know why... Mind you, I'm not about to start talking Esperanto to everyone (although I'm sure it would help in a pinch somewhere in the world), but I'm on the verge of doing some intense formulation of my current conlang (constructed language for you neophytes ;) ), the one that I use for my current SF trilogy. Don't be surprised if I start spouting Anjshé within the next year or so...
.....
Recently bought the dvd for one of my favorite movies of all time, 'Catch-22'. Definitely worth checking out sometime, especially those of you cynical bastards who want the current shmuck out of office. ;) Also picked up another fave, 'Head.' And no, it's not one of those movies. It's the one theatrical movie made by the Monkees. Completely against type, completely bizarre, and very telling, all at the same time.
.....
Yup, that's it. Gotta get me some shut-eye...

Date: 2004-06-10 11:52 pm (UTC)Yeah, I know it's a dumb reason for not picking up the cd, and to tell you the truth I'm not exactly salivating that it's out (I'm an STP fan, but ambivalent about GnR), but when I see cds--and there have been mercifully few--that have this PASTED onto the cd booklet, or in this case a sticker right on the shrinkwrap, saying stuff like this, my first reaction is "Yeah, right, like this is going to stop piracy." Actually, that's my second reaction. The first is "Gods, their ego is as big as Sting's."
Something tells me, and my instinct on music releases is actually pretty good, that VR is going to be one of those big-name releases that will be in the discount bins a few years from now. Like you said, Moth, it didn't stick in my head either. All I remember is seeing the video and noting that Scott Weiland looks remarkably like Sid Vicious in more ways than one.
Okay, that's my rant. You can all go back out and play now. :)

Date: 2004-06-11 01:55 am (UTC)I am jealous of you for having a copy of Head though. I definitely need to pick that up, I remember seeing it on MTV during the Monkees revival of the late-80s and the surrealist glee it brought my precociously freaky little heart!
