Well, shortish at any rate. I've been working Saturday mornings at the shop (part of my bookkeeping duties) but it gets me out at 1pm so I still have the rest of the day to do whatever, even if it's doing errands and whatnot. And considering that our building's washing machine is still not working correctly (it should be fixed this Thursday, last I heard), I spent part of this morning kicking back at the laundromat to do our laundry while A stayed at home to make apple sauce and wait for a package from IKEA. Which alas contained broken items, but they should hopefully be sending replacements soon.

What about the writing, though? Yeah, I've been kind of distracted by other things this past week and hardly got anything done other than some cutting and pasting, but I'm hoping I can rectify that this coming week. Granted, part of last week's schedule contained three midday shifts that didn't provide all that much time for me to work on MU4, but this week's is much better, with only one midday shift and the rest all mornings.

Still, I need to get my butt in gear, because this novel ain't going anywhere without me putting in the work!

It's funny how, now that I'm unemployed, I've fallen into a habit of saying "I need to go to the store for (X)". A has even called me on it a few times! Heh. Seriously, though...I'm doing my best and not going out and about unless absolutely necessary. We don't *need* the shower cleaner spray right this second. I'll be braving Trader Joe's tomorrow for our occasional fridge-stocking needs. The only reason I went outside today is to mail a few things, and that's it. Going for a walk later is up in the air, as the pollen count is apparently sky-high today and neither of us do well in pollen-filled air.

In the meantime, I'll stick around and do the laundry. [I may have cut in front of someone, but Laundry Rule #2 states that if your stuff sits there in your bag for more than an hour without using the empty machine, then you lose your place. Laundry Rule #1 is of course "if you leave your clothes in the dryer for more than an hour after the cycle is done, then the person behind you can empty it so they can use it." Rule #1 has temporarily been suspended due to the virus.]

Anyhoo! My schedule has been kind of wonky as of late, but I *am* getting things done, so it's not as if I'm wasting the entire day, right?

As planned, today was the day for me to give the couch covers (and the bedsheets while I was at it) a good washing at the local launderette, so I could put said covers over the new cushions. As expected, all four cushions (two seats, two backs) were vacuum-packed and squeezed into a much smaller box and did the FOOOOP! thing as soon as I opened it! Heh. The end result is that you can definitely feel the difference! Considering the old cushions were almost a decade old, I'm not surprised at all. Side note: I also vacuumed underneath the living room couch, and found a few years' worth of dust, two buttons, two stitch markers, some random yarn bits, and a solitary Cheerio. I may have seen a spider zip away as well, but he was out of my line of sight when I looked again. As long as he's doing his job and snacking on all the other bugs here, he can stay as long as he likes.

As said, the sheets were done as well. We'd bought a new comforter some time ago and I'd forgotten to put on the bed skirt, so this time I threw it on while I let the mattress air out in the meantime. I've just put a new set of sheets on and will throw the comforter on a little later. And I ended my day of cleaning by running the trash, recycling and compost down.

SO! This means all that's left is for me to get rid of the old cushions and the love seat.  I have not yet heard from Home Reserve when it will be coming, but they said about fifteen business days, and that works out to sometime near the end of this coming week. So the plan is:

Once I'll get confirmation that the new chair is coming, I'll schedule a pickup from Recology.  Come to find out, since they're our main trash/recycling/compost company for pretty much the entire city, we get one free bulk furniture pickup per year. Sweet! All I need to do now is figure out how to snake the love seat out of Spare Oom, hook it through the hallways and through the front door, down the elevator (I think it fits...?) and out onto the sidewalk. All I know is that this will entail me moving one of the bookshelves and its contents, two of my guitars, and hopefully nothing else. I don't rightly remember how we managed to get it in here other than that I'd accidentally scraped one of the legs against the wall and you can still see the scar. Oops!

Other than that, I've decided this coming week is the week I Get Off My Arse.

I've been pathetically lazy the last few weeks, and I'll let myself have that, if only because I was still getting used to the new schedule around here. But the time has come for me to get back on the horse again and continue my morning exercises. I'd also like to start up on my planned idea of doing a circuit around the neighborhood on the days we aren't going to the gym after work.  I really need to start moving again, because a) I can tell I've put some weight back on, and b) I'm getting SUPER lazy again. That needs to change, stat!

Hope everyone has a good week! :)

WELP. So much for doing the laundry downstairs. Looks like the washer shit the bed again. Which means I'm going to have to head over to Rainbow Wash again. I'm not complaining, though...I'd gotten so used to heading over there the last few months that it doesn't bother me. In fact, I kind of look forward to it in a weird way. I get to do some serious longhand work while I wait for the cycles to finish. And I can get snacks from across the way and coffee next door if need be.

In other news, I finally have a phone again! Yay! I'd brought it to the Sprint store down in the Mission, where even the store manager could not figure out what the hell happened to it (it was stuck in a power-up loop, and the only way to stop it was to take out the battery), so they gave me a replacement for no charge. I've decided I'm going to continue with curbing my dependency on it. I've added a few apps on it so far (Twitter, Instagram and Dropbox, three that I know I'd be using with any regularity), but I'm trying to keep it as spartan as possible. I'd like to depend on it more for its intended purpose -- communication -- rather than distraction.

In writing news, I'm a little less than 140 pages left in the final line edit of The Persistence of Memories. Thanks to the few of you who commented on the previous entry for the cover! I kind of like the cityscape one better myself. It's more colorful and retains the skyline imagery. I'll have to tweak it some, or see if I can use a similar picture, but we shall see. I'll probably be working on that tomorrow or maybe next weekend. Also, the soft date for release, I've decided, will be 2/15. It might be earlier or later, depending on if I can get it finished on time. I'll let y'all know.

As for WiS...I'm still a bit nervous about that one. I still have the soft date of late April for that one, but I'm not sure if I'll be finished in time. That one may not be done until summer instead. If that's the case, the release may end up being in autumn instead, and that means it'll end up switching places with The Balance of Light in terms of release date. The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards that schedule. Even though TBoL needs some serious editing, I can at least have that one ready by summer the latest. Again, we shall see...

Hmm. This Seatle/Carolina game is really one-sided. If this keeps up, I may end up heading over to the laundromat now instead of after the games...!

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend!

Random Jeremy H. Boob quote? Why not? :p

I really gotta get my ass in gear again. This past week has been a killer at work--not busy, but hellish with the things I had been working on--so a lot of things fell by the wayside, my sleep was pretty much insufficient and I just couldn't get any writing done.

I'm contemplating rewriting Faye's current scene in Can't Find My Way Home because it's just not sounding right. It's sounding very bland and inactive. Sure, she just woke up from about 3 hours' sleep and she's being lazy, but the prose just sounds like crap right now. It's not that long of a scene, either, just her getting up, realizing her situation, and a quick passage of how the people at work are treating her now, now that her boyfriend and his sister blew up half the lab when they jumped ahead in time.

I want to get started with the Angela Death outline too. I've been sitting on that one for the last few weeks. I think this one's going to be one of my shorter stories, but not having an outline isn't helping. I haven't even picked up the story itself in awhile.

Also: Need to do a bit of grocery shopping. Don't need much, as Emm picked up some stuff on Wednesday, but we need some greens among other things.

Also: LAUNDRY. I have a boatload of it that needs doing. Luckily I have quarters, but the temptation is great to get one more roll just to be safe.

Also: Haven't heard back from the apartment management yet, but hopefully sometime this coming week they'll be replacing that broken window in our apartment. Last I heard, they might end up replacing it from the outside, but at the same time I wouldn't mind them coming in so they can take a look at a few other windows that may need to be resealed that seem to rattle a bit.

Also: Am I ever going to do the trilogy website? Stay patient, kids...once I have my shit together, it'll come. I just need to work on a few other things first. The plus side is that I think I might be able to create some fun pictures for banners and backgrounds for the site now, now that I have Photoshop. SWEET!

And on the ephemeral side, I want to get some new icons for this here LJ...and one of these days when I have time, I want to scan some of my Murph drawings and create my own mood pix with them. Plus I want to post on my other LJ today, something of substance. I won't cry if I don't get to it, though.

On the plus side, we got a lot of walking done yesterday, I've caught up on sleep, we've pretty much cleaned up the mess that the building workers caused when they reTyvek'd the outer walls and resealed the window frames (we can actually feel the difference in temperature) on the north side of the building. So this weekend isn't a loss at all. :)

I need to get a LOT done. Time to get my butt in gear. Wish me luck!! :)

So today is my 'finish the errands' day. I just finished doing the laundry about a half hour ago, I've just Febrezed a few things, and once I've made the bed, I'm finally going to go through the stuff that my sister mailed me a month or so ago. (This is the last remaining box o' JoncStuff that was at the old homestead--after this is gone through, everything else of mine barring school-related stuff my Dad may want to keep will be here with me, leaving nothing else at the house.)

The writing is slow, but it's going. I got a few more words for the Angela Death project done last night and will probably do a bit more later today. I'm also going to make a conscious effort to start on the first chapter of Can't Find My Way Home. Given that I know the outline's okay for about three chapters before I need to tidy it up, I think getting a move-on with the writing part of it is a good idea. I also think I can wait on the Eden Cycle revision/preparation for the website, as I'm quite a few chapters in. I think preparing the website itself will be the main objective for the next week or so.

All this done while watching football! And man, there's been a boatload of it lately, between the College Bowls and the playoffs. My Patriots may be out of the running, but I can safely say I'm pleasantly surprised at who ended up getting this far!

Okay, back to work...
