Not much going on with the long weekend here...A took Friday off so she could get vaccine number two, with Saturday as our lazy day (in which I drove up to Laurel Village to get our car washed, get some quarters for laundry and buy cupcakes for dessert, but that's about it). We did our grocery shopping today instead of doing the farmer's market, but we DID go for a walk, bought some plants at the local garden shop up the street, and got burgers for lunch. Tomorrow if we're up for it, we may go walking in Golden Gate Park and make our way to the Conservatory of Flowers if it's open.

Other than that? Not much to report...sadly, I did not get the job I tried for the other week. Guess I didn't clear the final hurdles? Not sure why, but it does once again prove that I'm terrible at interviews. I know how to handle them just fine, and I don't crash and burn...I think it's that I don't quite know how to ingratiate myself with whoever I'm trying out with? I don't actively try to turn them off, I just sometimes feel like they don't quite understand why I would want to work with them, or I don't quite pull that part off, because it never feels honest to me. Well, anyway. I'm not going to dwell on this other than that maybe it's a sign that DIY really is the road I need to take careerwise. How the hell I'd make money off that, I don't know, but...I'll think of something.

ANYWAY! It's a lovely weekend and per VP Harris' request I'm going to enjoy it and not feel a bit guilty about it. :D

It's been an interesting couple of days to say the least. Surprising and unexpected (and much needed) positive national news in amongst all the stressful and negative things going on. I've had a lot of thoughts about it to say the least.

And on a personal level, I seem to be going in a positive direction with the Possible Job Opening! I had a video interview with one of the HR people on Thursday, I passed the follow-up questionnaire (a general test on how I deal with online support) pretty easily, and now I have a follow-up interview (I believe with the team leads) next Monday! We'll see where this goes...

I've been reading the Bridgetown Trilogy again. The main reason is to give myself a few things to think about for a possible MU4 follow-up novel (or duology, or trilogy, whatever it ends up being), and I think I have a better idea of what to do with it. On a side note, I think a side project for me while working on that is to give the original trilogy a much needed revision/edit. It's tons better than it originally was, sure, but I'm still seeing a lot of issues (and thankfully only a few continuity errors) that I'd like to fix. We'll see where this goes...

My initial 'introductory' phone interview with the Potential Employer went incredibly well! Since I interviewed with them back in October, they dispensed with the usual upselling of who they are and got right down to business. The hours are perfect, the bennies are good, and the pay is right about the same as Previous Job. It's essentially a Tech Support position on phone and email. The volume is MUCH lower/less insane than Previous Job's, so I'm down with that too. Only one or two minor concerns but we can easily work around them.

So in short, I have a follow-up video interview Friday morning! I think I made a good impression (a better impression than last time, at any rate) and I prepped myself a LOT this time out. A had a fine suggestion of spending the next few days online checking out tutorials of the various platforms I'd be working with, so there's that as well. This makes total sense to me as that's exactly my style of learning: by hands-on and looking under the hood. [Which as you know was not something Previous Job provided.]

So yeah...I'm really excited about this one! More to come...

Had my third interview for an Office Manager position here in the city, and I think (I hope!) it went well. I seem to have passed the first two tests with flying colors (which is funny, considering I thought I failed miserably), so at this point I think they're going to share our video with the company in particular and if I'll pass the audition again.

Have I already said I really dislike interviews? I dislike interviews -- if only because I feel like I babble and ramble too much, and I've never been able to shake that. I'm a much better writer than I am a speaker so it's an obstacle that I always have to fight past more than anything else.

Still -- I think this one went really well, so here's to hoping this one pans out!

So I've just been informed that the move-in date for the Current Day Job is 11/1. You know what? I ain't even mad, bro. Not anymore. It's given me the impetus to follow through with some important life and career choices.

I can do this.

I seem to be in a good place with the writing...I'm going in the right direction and getting done what needs doing. I'm getting daily words out. I'm making time for small errands and projects and not worrying about deadlines for them. I'm doing morning stretches and making the time to go to the gym or walk around the neighborhood when I can.

So why do I still feel irritable? Well, I think I can safely say this is probably due to the recent Possible New Day Job news that I did not get the position I'd applied for. I'm not saddened or annoyed by it; to be honest, I think they thought I was overqualified, and perhaps I might have been. No, I think this is that I haven't been prioritizing the job search as much as I should. Lord knows I've been wanting to move on for a few years now, so why the procrastination? Good question indeed. SO.  This means that starting today, I will make it a point to apply to at least three to five jobs a week from here on in. Whether that means applying to them all in one day or applying to one per day, it doesn't matter. As long as I hit Friday having my resume out there to at least those three to five places.

And before I start complaining and finding excuses not to do it: One application takes me a half hour at most; reading the listing, the tweaking of the cover letter, the filling out of the online submission form, it all takes a short amount of time. So no reason why I can't do that instead of futzing around on social media, right?

...as the interview with Adecco went well. In fact, it went MORE than well. The guy who helped me was like that squirrel in the Hoodwinked trailers, doing about 84.7 things at once (including calling his wife, which apparently I reminded him to do), but before I even filled out any of the paperwork to update my file (they had the NJ office email the original file over), he already had something lined up for me.

Yes, you read that right.

He already had something lined up for me.

It's a month-long job doing data entry, and it's right on the F line on Market Street so I won't have a problem heading down to work. Pure luck, but hey, I'm not complaining. I just have to take all my nice duds out of the closet and iron them now!

So yeah, I do apologize for whining yesterday. Just didn't expect this to happen so quickly!! :p And I do thank everyone (especially [livejournal.com profile] dazmarzipan ) for the kind words and rooting for me. Just what I needed! Oh, and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] juniperblue for sending that scribendi.com link. I'm setting stuff up now and plan on contacting them soon!

Oh--and on a completely different note, while at Adecco I heard a cover version of "California Dreamin'" on the radio. And it occured to me that that was the first time I'd actually heard a California-themed song on the radio since moving to California. Weird...

And one other thing--Mr. Mailman is still a pinhead. Dropped YET ANOTHER CARD in my mailbox this morning, damn it. But at least this one has the Stockton St. PO listed and not San Jose... *shakes head*
