July is already here and I've got a busy month ahead of me.  I'm not entirely done with In My Blue World -- I probably have two or three more scenes to write before this draft is done -- but I still want to get started on the revision.  I'd like to get as much of it done as I can by the end of this month so I have a new title to plug at Worldcon.  The actual release date probably won't be until late August or even September, but as long as I have it mostly done and freebie cards mocked up and printed, I'm fine with that.

That being said, I'm going to make good on my plan and give myself some social media detox while I'm at it.  I'll still pop up here twice a week along with my blog posts, of course.  But I'll only be on Twitter and FB to plug my ebooks (There's a Smashwords sale going on this month!  Go check it out!) and maybe say hello now and again.  I just need to take a mental break from it for a bit.

So what else should I be doing this month?  Well, I've got to read stuff for the Hugos!  I downloaded the packet the other day and I just need to drop it all into my Nook.  Surprisingly, I've already read most of the Best Novel nominations so I'm good there.  I do quite enjoy reading the short stories and novellas for this -- I don't get around to reading them all that often (although I really should visit Tor.com more often, considering they always have some fine reading there) and this is a good time for me to get caught up with the good stuff.

New month, new goals.

Hope everyone has a good week! :)

It's a surprisingly warm weekend here in the Bay Area, already in the low 60s at 8am (that's a rarity here!).  A and I are going to do a bit of walking today, going up to Fillmore for some shopping, and perhaps down to Japantown (a few blocks away from where we'll be) for lunch.  But right now I'm watching the news and realizing just how many things are going on in the area this weekend!  A race up at Sonoma Raceway, and not one but THREE pride marches in town (Trans March was last night, the Dyke March is today, and the Pride March is tomorrow).  We take our pride seriously here, yo.

There's also the fact that I *think* I have a few books waiting for me at Green Apple, but I have yet to hear from them...

In other news, I just hit the major climactic scene on In My Blue World last night (woo!) so now I need to start winding it all back down.  I'm still on schedule for finishing the book by the end of this month!  I do feel like I've rushed it just a bit, but I'm okay with that.  I have a month and a half to get a good portion of it in shape with revision.  I've done it in that amount of time in the past, so I think I can do it again.  Added to that, I'm quite happy with the scene I just finished last night for the Apartment Complex story as well.  All in all, a really good couple of writing sessions yesterday!

The Day Job training session I had to go to wasn't nearly as much of a pain in the ass as I thought it would be -- it was long, but the person running it actually made it fun so it wasn't a complete slog.  [I still have a few points of contention with what they're trying to roll out here, but they're at least being realistic about it.]  One more trip to Concord next Thursday for the quarterly meeting (and yay, free food!) and I'll have made my quota for office visits for the next couple of months.  Heh.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

It's a windy Saturday here in San Francisco, but it's also clear and nice. A and I went to the De Young Museum in the park to see a few exhibits (Cult of the Machine, a look at the machine age in art in the early 20th century; and Weapons of Mass Seduction, a look at WWI and II propaganda posters and art), and after that went for a walk through the arboretum. All in all a nice three mile walk! Then back to our boring world of buying groceries and then spending the afternoon doing not much of anything else. I just went through a month's worth of political fliers that were mailed to us, ripped off our address and shredded that bit (the rest can go into the recycling).  We'll most likely hit the farmer's market tomorrow and do a spot of vacuuming.

Now? I'm downloading the all the folders of the 2018 Hugo Packet. I tell you, when they came up with this some years back it was a brilliant idea. They work with all the participating publishers and provide us with e-books of the nominated items. It gives me tons to read for the next month or so! [Plus, it gives me e-books of stuff I already have that I enjoy reading too!]  I'm still trying to find time to make good on my idea of reading more e-books, especially including self-published items, but now that I'm mostly caught up with my To Be Read Pile, I should have more time very soon.

And with that...not much else this weekend! I'm trying to keep it minimal, because I have to head to Concord on Wednesday, and then we have the weekend trip to Mendocino/Ft Bragg next weekend. Between that and squeezing in my writing and my blogs, I'm always kind of busy. A *good* kind of busy, but busy nonetheless. The mini-vacation will be a nice respite.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend! :)

Three days of a four-day weekend (we took Friday off) was enjoyed at BayCon!  There's one more day of the con tomorrow, but the both of us have decided that we're going to take the day off instead to recuperate.  Considering we've got things to do this coming Thursday and Friday as well (anniversary celebrations for the in-laws), it's probably for the best that we spend tomorrow sleeping in and doing not much of anything at all.

[Side note: the Day Job had unexpectedly set up a mandatory training session that I really didn't want to deal with this coming Friday morning, but thankfully cooler managerial heads prevailed and they'll reschedule sometime in June, when we don't have much going on.  Hopefully they won't reschedule during something else A and I have planned!]

As for writing...we didn't spend too long at the con and were home by dinnertime, so I was able to sneak in some writing time!  Yay!  On Friday I got words done for both projects, and did one each yesterday and today.  It got me thinking, maybe that's a possibility for weekend work?  Right now I'm treating my schedule as mandatory on weekdays and optional on the weekend, so it's something to think about.

Anyhoo...hope everyone's having a good long weekend! :)

jon_chaisson: (Default)
I mean, why not, right?  Everyone else is!  Just kicking back in our jammies and coffee, watching the Britbox replay.  Not a bad way to spend Saturday morning.  As A. just said, we should have had some Pimms as well!

Not too much else planned this weekend.  We'll be going to see the Studio Ghibli movie Porco Rosso tomorrow afternoon, but other than that it'll be a slow weekend.  I'll need to do some BayCon prep this weekend, and also get my blog posts ready, but that's about it.  We'll probably be sticking around close to home.  No complaints there.

Writing: it occurred to me the other day that I don't think I've ever actively written characters who are parents, other than Poe's parents in the trilogy -- and they only feature in one extended sequence.  With the Apartment Complex story, I focus heavily on the parents as well as the kids as central characters, which is definitely a new direction for me.  And as usual, I don't want to make them stock characters, as that's not my style.  I love creating fully-formed characters, so Samuel will show all the quirks and things that make him who he is, not just his role as Diwa's Pop.  This should be an interesting experiment!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend! :)

It's been a nice relaxing weekend here, not doing much of anything at all.  A good walk through the neighborhood, some minor grocery shopping, and a call home to Mom, and that's about it.  Can't complain!

I do need to start working a bit on the panels I'll be on at BayCon in a few weekends, though.  This one's going to be a bit interesting, as these panels aren't exactly the ones I normally sign up for.  Two of them are of my own making: one dealing with the idea of mentors in the Star Wars universe (A's idea, actually), and another focusing on science fiction and fantasy in music within the last few decades (which I'm actually kind of surprised got accepted!).  The third is another interesting one: returning to a created world after spending time away from it (which of course I'll talk about the Mendaihu Universe).  No panels on self-publishing or doing readings this time out!  So yeah... gotta prepare for those!

As for the 750Words project from the other day...that seems to be going well so far.  I'd forgotten that the old one on my joncwriter email is a free account because I joined way back in 2012 (when they went to a paying site, the old users were grandfathered in as lifetime free), so when I set up the GMail-tied one, I had to pay.  It's only $5 a month, and the site is so worth it, considering I use it nearly every single day.  It's only been a few days, but I can definitely feel a difference, because I'm forcing myself NOT to focus on the book-as-whole, only on the scenes at hand.  I'm going to keep going with it until further notice then.

Not much else to report here.  Hope everyone had a a good weekend, and Happy Mother's Day! :)

But there's valid reasons for it!  Really!  I took a break from writing on Saturday to do fun things!  We headed down to Half Moon Bay for lunch and a bit of shopping, then came back to watch the first two Star Wars prequels that afternoon.  We watched The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones back to back (and lived to tell the tale, heh).  We made it a fun experience by live-tweeting it as we went.  Consensus: TPM suffered from painfully bad dialogue and forced acting, but had it been revised and rewritten - and maybe made into 3 or 4 Clone Wars-style TV episodes instead -- it might have worked better.  It's not a bad story idea, it was just badly executed.  As for AotC, we were both pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it actually was.  Still a few issues -- mainly length and a few very problematic character issues (we both thought bringing back Shmi Skywalker (Anakin's mum) for the sole reason of killing her off so he can kick off his whole decline to the Dark Side was especially problematic).  We'll be watching Revenge of the Sith sometime this week to finish up the trio.

Why are we watching the prequels, you ask?  Well, neither of us have watched them, and it's kind of tied in with an upcoming panel I'm leading at Baycon in a few weeks.  It's a panel A. and I came up with, centering on mentoring in the Star Wars universe, whether it's good or bad.  This should be a fun one!

Related, I also need to work on the music list for the other panel I'm leading: SF in music over the last 20-30 years.  This one was inspired by a panel I'd watched years ago at Readercon, which focused mostly on the 60s-70s prog and folk scenes.  I figured it was high time for a sequel, focused on 80s to today.  Which means I may have to forego a few days' worth of writing to throw this playlist together.

Other than that, it was a nice quiet weekend.  Hope everyone else has a good week! :)

D'OH!  Forgot to post here over the weekend.  It just so happens that I did something totally unlike me and DID THINGS OFFLINE, AWAY FROM MY COMPUTER.  I know... freaky, isn't it?  On Saturday we headed over to 9th and Irving for a few errands and a really tasty brunch at a tiny cafe about the size of a hallway (Art's Cafe -- if you're in the area and willing to wait in line, it's definitely worth it).  A walk through the arboretum in Golden Gate Park and then off to grocery shopping.  And on Sunday we went downtown (another thing I rarely do) and went to see a musical called Head Over Heels -- it's based on an old play and updated by way of...songs by the Go-Go's.  It was bananas, it was ridiculously silly, and it was a LOT of fun.  Do check it out in the future if it comes your way.

Which means the only writing I did last night was updating Welcome to Bridgetown.  Hey, at least I got *something* done!

Which also means a Fresh Start today.  I'm zipping through my Things I Need to Do list, which means by evening I should be good to go.  Yay!

Hope everyone has a good week!

Writing multiple entries on the weekend seems to be a thing for me now, I guess?  I've been waking up around 7am on the weekends for a while now, and I usually have nothing better to do at that hour so I figure, why not?  It's either that or futz around on Twitter.  This is maybe a little more productive.

I've been keeping relatively mum on my current writing projects -- mainly because I don't want to jinx them just yet -- but I will say I'm much happier with how they've been moving lately.  I think I finally figured out what was needed in the Apartment Complex story, and I'm continuing what I'm doing with what I'm doing there.  I'll go into more detail at a later time once I have more written and have decided if I'm happy with what I've done.  As for In My Blue World... let's just say this one is pouring out of me at a surprisingly fast rate, very similar to the speed I wrote Meet the Lidwells.  So of course I'm nervous and think that anything written this fast couldn't possibly be good!  Heh.

Not much planned today, other than grocery shopping and maybe a walk up to the other end of Clement for the farmer's market, a visit to Green Apple (A. has a book waiting for her) (no, really, it has nothing to do with us wanting to buy EVEN MORE BOOKS.) (Maybe.), and maybe some lunch.  And writing my WordPress blogs for the start of the week.

Hope everyone has a good start to the week!

Wait, it's Saturday already?  Man, this week flew by!  I did get a lot of work done, but still...haven't had one of those zoom-it's-gone weeks in a long time.

Today is the day we head to the Asian Art Museum downtown because why not -- we haven't been there in ages, and when we walked by it during the March for Our Lives we both realized it was high time to go again.  After that we may head over to Japantown for lunch (I already hear the okonomiyaki calling my name) and manga purchases.  And after that?  Good question.  Maybe some anime?  We have a Crunchyroll account that I rarely use so maybe it's high time that we start using it.  I'm woefully behind on quite a few titles.

Other than that, not much to report.  The writing is coming along slowly, but it's going in the right direction so I can't complain.  I'm following my own advice:  just a little bit a day, and it'll add up.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

New month, new attempt at sticking to my whiteboard schedule, as expected.  I've been doing pretty good the last few months, to tell the truth, so it hasn't been a chore to keep up with it.  I do need to put my stats on my spreadsheet, though...with that I'm a few months behind!  I mainly keep these stats just to see where I stand in terms of productivity; it's more curiosity than anything else.  I already know the weakest parts of the whiteboard schedule have been the non-writing stuff.  They're not entirely important, but they're things I enjoy that I'd like to do more often.  [Or in the case of document scanning; things that are long overdue.]  I think too often I've been not taking them all that seriously; it'll get too late in the day and I'll shrug and say 'oh well, I'll take care of it next weekend.'

Am I going to try it again this month?  Sure, why not?  Something to keep me going.

That is, after we head to the movies today!  :p

On a side note, I see that the A to Z Challenge is starting today.  Part of me is tempted to join in, as it's a very fun blogging meme, but on the other hand, I've been quite busy and really don't have the time for it this time out.  Maybe next year!  Or, y'know, I can start my own sometime later in the year...

Hope everyone has a good week!

It's been relatively warm here in the Bay Area the last few days, including a few with lovely clear skies and sunshine.  The upside is that we've had the windows open to get in some fresh air while work our Day Jobs.  The downside?  It's finally the weekend and it's overcast and cooler!  Boo!  Ah well.  I believe it should be nicer in the next few days if I'm not mistaken.  And tomorrow we'll be going to see Pacific Rim Uprising, which should be a lot of ridiculous fun!

The writing is...well, it's coming along but slowly.  In My Blue World seems to be unfolding quite smoothly, to the point that I wonder if I should focus on that one more.  I'll decide that in a few weeks if I'm still dragging on the Apartment Complex story.  One of the things I've been thinking about lately is the actual physical process I've been using for my writing.  I'm almost always at my desk in Spare Oom, whether it's writing longhand or using 750Words or MS Word.  Each platform feels slightly different; 750 makes it feel like I don't need to take it too seriously, that I don't have to write The Best Prose Ever that first time out.  Longhand feels like old-school, and it's also a much slower process...not to mention messier, with no Backspace key available.  MS Word feels like I'm making it official somehow, considering that's the word processor I've been using since the Belfry days from outtakes to final drafts.

I'm thinking, could that be part of the problem?  That I need to break out of that mindset?  Maybe so... I used to be REALLY bad about this during the Belfry years... and in the process I'd have a ton of nearly-empty notebooks with half-assed longhand attempts and filed-away Word outtakes.  This is one of the habits I've been trying to retrain myself on over the last few years.  It's hard as hell, because it's so entrenched.

Something to think about, at any rate.

jon_chaisson: (Default)
Not too much to report here, as it's been a relatively quiet weekend.  Went to the Legion of Honor Museum yesterday morning to see an exhibition about Casanova (yes, the real one), and the paintings and other fripperies that went on during that time.  We were also going to go to a bouquet exhibition at the de Young Museum in the park, but alas, by the time we got there, there was absolutely nowhere to park.  (Thankfully the tickets were free so no money lost, though it would have been nice to see anyway.)  Today we went over to the Haight, and a tasty brunch, and then hung around at the book store and at Amoeba.

For some reason lately I've been feeling like I've been getting fuck-all done.  Sure, I'm working on the Apartment Complex story on an almost daily basis, but I've been missing a few Daily Words sessions, and I've just decided to take the week off from blogging at the two WordPress sites.  I'm not exactly tired, really.  I don't feel exhausted at all.  I think I'm just in need of getting my shit together, is all.  And to do that, I need a good fresh start.  Mind you, having to head to Concord for part of the work day on Thursday (and then going to the movies that same evening) is going to put a damper on a lot of things.

So I figure -- instead of calling this a week off from everything, I'm just slimming back, clearing my head, getting things cleared out of the way, and starting fresh next week.  Which, I should add, is totally clear, per my calendar.  I'll still pop back here on Wednesday (that's if I don't forget, like I've been doing lately).  Hopefully by this time next weekend, I'll be back on the horse and ready to go.

Hope everyone has a good week!
jon_chaisson: (Default)
...and i totally blame Daylight Savings Time.  I was really starting to enjoy being able to get up with the sun and not have to feel my way around a pitch-black bedroom first thing in the morning. Ah well...it'll be getting lighter soon enough.

FOGcon was indeed fun!  It always feels like it goes by too quickly, as it's a very small con with only a few panels running at a time, so I'll go to maybe three or four of them and suddenly the day is done.  Still, I had fun on the self-publishing panel, talking with a few others who clearly had more knowledge than I did about print versions of their books!  Heh.  Still, we all learned from each other, so it was a great panel overall.  My reading panel was cut short a bit due to going last, but I'm okay with that -- I read from the Apartment Complex story, which is still rough at this point.  Next stop, BayCon! :)

Meanwhile, it's Monday and everything's back to normal.  Day Job continues apace.  Blogging and writing still on schedule.  Not too much else to report.

Hope everyone has a good week!

 Things I Did This Weekend:

--Learned how to rip DVDs onto my external hard drive.  I may start doing this to get rid of some of the older DVDs I rarely watch.
--Visited the in-laws in Petaluma for lunch, had a tasty pizza at one of the tiny hip restaurants in the Theater District
--Did a quick overview of the electric guitars at Tall Toad Music (in the same city), as I'm contemplating trading in my rarely-used 12-string guitar for a second electric 6-string.  Fell in love with a Gretsch that I hope is there when I return next.
--Went to the gym for the first time in a week or so.
--Had a very tasty brunch at the new Turkish/Mediterranean bistro up the street (Lokma), deemed it quite excellent.
--Three loads of laundry, surprised that no one else was using it at the moment.
--Started to prepare for FogCon, which starts this Friday.  I have a reading and I'm on a panel about self-publishing!

Oh-- and I FINALLY released Meet the Lidwells!  WOOHOO!  It's now available at Smashwords, and it's on sale this week, for only $1.50!  Go check it out! :D

So yeah, that's been my weekend.  How's yours been? :)

jon_chaisson: (Default)
it's been a lovely weekend here in SF, in the upper 60s and even into the 70s at times, so we went against type and actually went outside both days!  Yesterday we walked up to Immigrant Point in the Presidio and got a lovely view of the Golden Gate -- both the bay inlet and part of the bridge -- and walked back town to Baker Beach and back towards home.  All told we walked just over four miles, most of it uphill!  After a lunch at the local burger joint, we relaxed for the rest of the day.  Today was a walk up to the other end of Clement to the local farmer's market and back.

Oh-- and there was an unexpected fireworks show in our neighborhood last night.  Apparently some venture capitalist / rich dude had his 80th birthday party over in Seacliff.  It wasn't just a random show, it was a legit professional show that lasted about 15 minutes with a showy ending an everything!

So yeah, now we're here at home, watching the Super Bowl.  I'll be honest, I'm okay with the Eagles possibly winning this, as they've had a pretty good season.  I mean yeah, I'd be thrilled with another Pats win, but it'll be a tough game getting there either way.  Meanwhile, we'll have our halftime nachos for dinner (of course), and after the game I"ll sneak in some more writing work.  In fact, since I"m typing this up during Q2 of the game, I might even do some 750 during the game to open up more time.  Yay multitasking!

Speaking of writing, I finally started doing a bit of transcription for the Apartment Complex story.  I have two chapters in plus an in-between note of ADD THINGS HERE so I know what holes I need to fill.  I can already see a handful of things I need to change and work on, but for the most part it's not nearly as bad as I'd expected.  It's rough, but it's definitely something I can work with.  I've been doing the transcription during the day (during slow Day Job moments or on breaks), which not only keeps me from revising when I'm not quite at that moment yet, but opens up time for more longhand during my nightly writing sessions.  Works for me!

Also, still working on the magical girl story (now called In My Blue World after the ELO lyric) on the 750.  I've written down some of the main plot points and worked on some character notes, so with that one I can just keep plugging away at outtakes and see how much of it I can piece together.  I'm thinking once I have more to work with, I'll do some note card outlining and build up the story a bit.  I probably won't get around to writing this one proper until midyear (at a guess), so I'm not too worried about getting this one up and running right away.  The Apartment Complex story takes precedence right now, and I'm hoping to at least have a rough draft finished mid-year or thereabouts.  I'd like to see if I can keep with the six-month turnaround if I can.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Someone downstairs has been renovating one of the second floor apartments for what seems like two months, and it's driving me absolutely fucking BONKERS because lately he's been doing work late at night.  Like doing some minor sanding, hammering or drilling at 9pm.  It usually doesn't last long.  But last night he decided that said drilling and hammer tapping was totally fine and A-OK AT MIDNIGHT.

Seriously.  DUDE.

I mean, it wasn't much, but just enough to keep me awake, so I went downstairs to say something... and of course they pulled the 'maybe if I don't make a noise, they'll go away' on me.  Suffice it to say, I ended up sleeping on the couch.and got maybe four or five hours of sleep.   I'm a bit tired but I'll make do.  I'll just have to find a way to confront him if he pulls that bullshit again.

ANYWAY.

Yesterday was All the Shopping and Cleaning, which kept me pretty busy.  I didn't get any creative stuff done, but that's okay...a day off now and again is fine by me.  Today I'll be getting a haircut (long overdue) and maybe a bit of brunch down at 9th and Irving, and after that we'll have the rest of the afternoon, so I can do my creative catch-up then.  I'd also like to implement another whiteboard item today: scanning.  I figure the weekends are perfect for me to spend an hour or so going through my longhand writing, artwork, and whatnot and scanning them into digital form.  Just a little at a time, so by maybe mid-year I'll be caught up and literally all of my writing and art will be saved to a cloud.  Posterity?  Maybe, but at the moment my reason is 'I live a few miles from a major fault line, so maybe it's not that bad of an idea.'  Heh.

OK!  Time to finish up my coffee and get on the road.  Hope everyone else is having a good weekend!
jon_chaisson: (Default)
Watching the Pats/Jags game is a bit painful to watch, considering Gronk was pulled out, Tom's playing with an injured hand, and the Pats aren't playing at their top form.  So I won't yammer on about it here.  [Besides, the game'll be over in a half hour, which means one of two very Pats-like things:  either they'll lose by an embarrassing amount, or they'll come back from behind with like two minutes to go and win it by a single point.  Heh.

[EDIT: WOOO GO PATS! :D :D :D :D]

Anyhoo...busy week this past week.  It started and ended with high volume and countless interruptions.  I don't mind the volume, as I usually put myself in a zone and plow through as much of it as I can.  It's the interruptions that irritate me.  It's me trying to finish up an OMG request and getting interrupted with another OMG request that needs to be worked on as Someone Please Save My Baby OMG Critical Urgent.  And served with a sprinkle of pings from teammates and client reps asking for requests I haven't even looked at yet.  So let's just say that I spent most of the week wondering why I was still at that Day Job.  *sigh*

BUT.  I still managed to get my writing done.  As I've said previously, I refuse to let the Day Job interrupt that.  And I'm not doing just a little at a time, either...I'm still working on multiple projects and blogs.  Yeah, I have definitely increased the volume of my creative endeavors, but it's something I've needed to do for some time now.  I enjoyed the volume I was at previously, especially when most of my focus was still on the trilogy vision, but the workload is different now and it needed readjustment.  It was important that I keep that volume up.

In other news... we're trying to be better about heading off to the gym.  It kind of fell apart over the last few months of 2017 due to all sorts of things, and we both felt it was important we fix that.  And if we can get some walking in on the weekends, so much the better.  Yesterday we walked up to Laurel Village and returned by way of Clement Street -- about a four or five mile walk round trip, I think.  We do love our walks through the neighborhood, so it's worth coming back to that.

So...here's to hoping next week goes by a little quieter and I won't be as stressed out!

jon_chaisson: (Default)
It's 10:15am and I'm still in my jammies and bathrobe, kicking back and listening to music while enjoying my coffee.  I really should get going, though.  I have a few errands to take care of!  In particular, I have four boxes full of books in the living room that need to be brought to the SF Library bookstore down at Fort Mason (this seems to be a quarterly thing for us now), and a box and a few bags of stuff to drop off at the Goodwill up the street from there.  I'm also contemplating whether I should also make my originally planned trip over to Bed Bath & Beyond down in Daly City for various things.  And yes, that last one depends on how lazy I am.  Heh.

But other than that, I don't have much planned for today. I made myself leave the house yesterday for grocery shopping and a walk over to the Starbucks/bank for quarters and a holiday coffee.  [Yes, I drank from an anti-Christmas holiday cup while walking through the wildly dangerous streets of San Francisco, surrounded by non-Christian heathens -- with money but no gun on my person, at that!  So SUCK IT, REPUBLICANS. ;-) ]  I don't have much else on the docket, though I'm sure I'm forgetting something as usual.

I'm nearly done with the initial note-taking of the Apartment Complex story -- that is, creating notecards for the plot points that I wrote for my daily words this past summer.  And yes, a good chunk of that was done during a marathon session last night, because why the hell not? I just have a few more days' worth of entries to go through, and then I can start fleshing the main story out.  This is where the fun begins -- coming up with completely new plot points that will pull this story together.  Looking forward to that!  I've also been thinking a bit about my original idea of writing this one longhand.  At first I was a bit iffy about it, because my past longhand attempts were usually disjointed, far too directionless, and missing a lot of important story beats.  But then I remembered, I'm approaching this story differently.  I have a lot of it planned out already, so I'm not flailing.  Which means the slower pace of longhand will help me find the pace of the story itself.  Plus it'll get me out of Spare Oom so I'm not hiding in my nerdcave for months on end.

OKAY!  Enough blathering and procrastinating. I got stuff to do!

It's a lovely day out there, and we're planning on jumping in the new car and driving down to Half Moon Bay, but right now it's 49 degrees and the apartment is chilly!  Such is the way of winter in the Bay Area.  [Yes, I know, it's not snowy and in the teens.  We've both dealt with that kind of weather most of our lives, thankyewverymuch!]  Anyhoo, it looks like it'll be a nice weekend, so I can't complain too much.  Only complaint here is that we're still waiting for the DMV to send us our new plates!

In other news, things are going well in the writing universe.  I'm balancing between revision of Lidwells and outlining the new story, and making some serious headway.  The Day Job has been a bit of a bear, only because Outlook has been wonky all week. My job revolves all around working on emails, and about ninety percent of it uses the Advanced Find function, which currently is not working at all.  I can still do what I need to, it's just taking three times as long to do it.  Ah well...

Hope everyone has a good weekend!
