It's been a hell of a busy week here.  Between sneaking in daily words, prepping for BayCon (and conversing and planning with fellow panelists), I'm amazed I'm actually getting anything done.  Added to the fact that I'd completely forgotten that my in-laws were coming in to town to visit yesterday.  [I know they're coming in NEXT Thursday for something different, but I'd forgotten about yesterday.]

This is why I have multiple calendars here in Spare Oom.  The regular store-bought calendar is the social one, so I'll be able to remember what's coming up and what I have to plan around and adjust accordingly.  Especially when I have a bunch of things going on at the same time!!

Anyhoo...somehow I'm still getting through it all regardless.  Stressed out a little bit, sure, but I'll get over it.

[Speaking of stress, the Managers Upstairs at the Day Job in their infinite knowledge have decided that 'same-day resolution' is our new goal.  Which is all fine and dandy, except that THE ORIGINAL 2-DAY RESOLUTION WAS JUST FINE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.  This is all about 'customer satisfaction' and I've already voiced my concerns to my managers that this will do nothing except stress me out and get interrupted by bank reps asking for updates when I haven't even gotten to their request yet.  I'm not moving on this one, because I've got enough shit to deal with already.  I've found that the immovable rock (me) usually wins because the managers eventually give up and work around me instead.  Not being a Special Snowflake here... I'm just trying to keep my own sanity.]

ANYWAY.

Busy weekend.  Lots to prepare for.  Hopefully I'll get it all done, and I'll also have time for the writing as well.

It's been a nice relaxing weekend here, not doing much of anything at all.  A good walk through the neighborhood, some minor grocery shopping, and a call home to Mom, and that's about it.  Can't complain!

I do need to start working a bit on the panels I'll be on at BayCon in a few weekends, though.  This one's going to be a bit interesting, as these panels aren't exactly the ones I normally sign up for.  Two of them are of my own making: one dealing with the idea of mentors in the Star Wars universe (A's idea, actually), and another focusing on science fiction and fantasy in music within the last few decades (which I'm actually kind of surprised got accepted!).  The third is another interesting one: returning to a created world after spending time away from it (which of course I'll talk about the Mendaihu Universe).  No panels on self-publishing or doing readings this time out!  So yeah... gotta prepare for those!

As for the 750Words project from the other day...that seems to be going well so far.  I'd forgotten that the old one on my joncwriter email is a free account because I joined way back in 2012 (when they went to a paying site, the old users were grandfathered in as lifetime free), so when I set up the GMail-tied one, I had to pay.  It's only $5 a month, and the site is so worth it, considering I use it nearly every single day.  It's only been a few days, but I can definitely feel a difference, because I'm forcing myself NOT to focus on the book-as-whole, only on the scenes at hand.  I'm going to keep going with it until further notice then.

Not much else to report here.  Hope everyone had a a good weekend, and Happy Mother's Day! :)

It's a four-day weekend for me, and almost immediately I forgot what day it was.  Normally this isn't a problem, but we've had some big plans this weekend so I had to remind myself what was going on that particular day.  Such as today, when we are not heading down to San Mateo for BayCon but instead will be heading to the symphony.  [The tickets for the SFS were bought well before the BayCon ones, and I don't have any panels at the con today, so it's all good.  Especially since we'll be going to see a chamber quartet perform one of my favorite pieces, Samuel Barber's String Quartet Op. 11 (you should of course be familiar with the second segment, the adagio).  Really looking forward to that.

I'm taking just a tiny bit of a vacation from writing this weekend as well, choosing to enjoy a bit of a respite before I jump bank in.  In the past I'd be fine with going straight out for months on end, and as much as I'd love to continue doing that, I think my energy and creativity is better spent spreading it out a bit.  Spending a bit of time having fun with playing music, making art, whatever.  I'm no longer working on a long-term project that's eating up all my time, so now is the best time for me to spread out the fun things a little bit, right?

Speaking of the Con, I have to say it's quite a pleasant surprise to have a completely random person walk up to me a few hours after a panel I've been on and have them thank me.  I try not to be one of those panelists that take over the conversation (or diverge from the point of it) (let's be honest, I try not to be that audience member that does the same), so when someone comes up to me to thank me for providing some insights or making it enjoyable for them, it's a great feeling.

So!  Tomorrow we have one more day of the con (I'm on two panels -- one on book covers, another on conlangs) and I'm looking forward to them.  Yay!

And then it's back to the Day Job grind on Tuesday.  Boo!
