A few random things:

Broadband is evil. It's eating away at time I normally set aside for my writing, and now I'm goofing off, sending emails, checking out sites, downloading...umm...err..."music"...and most of all, setting up my LAUNCHcast radio station. For anyone in the know, my station is joncwriter. I've got the normal station and then I've got three different "mood" stations, including one called "Die Joncswerk OST", which is primarily stuff I'd listen to while writing. The neat thing about this is that I'm finally hearing bands that I would otherwise have skipped over. Right now Lambchop's "Action Figure" is playing...I never knew these guys were so good! Damn that Launchcast...Damn it all to hell. ;)

And in other news, apparently Robert Smith has been hanging around Perry Farrell too long. He's concocted a summer festival called Curiosa, which has basically the same type set up (main stage, side stage, etc). And check out the line-up: The Cure, Interpol, The Rapture, Muse, Thursday, Mogwai, Cursive, Melissa Auf Der Maur (IMO the only decent thing to come out of Hole), Cooper Temple Clause, and more to be announced. Let's put this in bold, shall we? I MUST GO TO THIS SHOW.

And in still other news, the new Mission of Burma CD rocks. It's great to have them back among the living...it's been too long, and cranking up Birdsongs of the Mesozoic just wasn't cutting it. Other rockin' cds: The Magnetic Fields, i; The Beta Band, Heroes to Zeros; and of course, Pixies' Wave of Mutilation: Best of. And I'm proud to say that I...um...heard a copy of The Grey Album. As a consummate Beatles fan, I was impressed. Now if only I could get a hold of a used copy of ProTools... *sigh*

Hey, any chance I could, um hear your copy of the Grey Album?

Another Best of Pixies cd? I'll bet it has new stuff on it too. Curse them! Launchcast has already convinced me I need the BBC Live cd.

Haven't set up any moods yet - I just usually let it play whatever it wants while I'm at work. Ooh, Voice of the Beehive. Keen!

The only thing off the new Pixies cd is the single version of "Gigantic", but there's really no big diff between the two. Other than that, it's one of those 4AD comps they've been putting out over the last few years. It does have a few b-sides, but you can find them on the Complete B-Sides disc which I believe just had a domestic release not too long ago.

Mission of Burma has a new album? Is it with Roger Miller? I'd though the original members had no interest in getting back together.
At the WFMU record show that I went to recently, I picked up an old Roger Miller album on Vinyl. He covers "King of the Road" by the other Roger Miller, I find that very amusing.

Yep, it's Roger Miller, Clint Conley & Peter Prescott (Martin Swope is semi-retired and begged off). It's called ONoffON. I guess their reunion tour went over so well that they decided to do this.

BTW, have you heard Conley's side project Consonant? It's pretty good, but it's like listening to MoB without the loud guitars. I believe a few members of Boston bands are in that lineup...

There's something about the album in last week's EW also. I think I intended to mention it to you at some point. Possibly while high on cough medicine.
