Here we are, kicking back in our hotel room in Carmel-by-the-Sea, after a nearly three-hour twisty-turny-windy drive from San Simeon about ninety miles south. A long day, but it was fun and extremely scenic! Tomorrow we'll be heading up to Monterey to check out the aquarium and hang out in Cannery Row.

Which reminds me--it came to me that, after all these years, I never read Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. The only book of his that I read (and dreaded) was The Pearl, and I think it's about time I read his claim to fame. I know there's a few bookstores in downtown Monterey so I'm sure we'll be looking for more books. :)

Upon our return home we may end up taking the slightly longer way via Route 1 (aka the Pacific Coast Highway) which would take us through Santa Cruz. Can you believe we've been in the Bay Area for over five years and we still haven't gone there yet? (Must be all the damn vampires. ;) ) We may or may not stop on the way through, but we'll see. We may even stop up at Half Moon Bay if we're not tired.

More soon...I have taken an absurd amount of pictures, and will post them upon our return! :)

I'd recommend Cannery Row, which is a novel in the form of short stories. It's short, incisive, and more interesting than the big novels.

I like East of Eden better than Grapes of Wrath, though that's no saying what you would like...

Thanks! That's the one I picked up. And yes, I was greatly amused that I bought Cannery Row in Cannery Row. It doesn't take too much to amuse me. :p
