Meant to post this earlier...
Thanks to watching them on PBS with my dad when I was young, and later on Sunday nights on MTV in my junior year in high school, to this day I still quote Monty Python, even more so that I realize. I actually know how to do the Silly Walk (but don't have the legs to do it anymore...). The "books" that
head58 and our circle of friends wrote were heavily influenced by them (some could say we stole shamelessly from them). To this day when I see llamas at the zoo or on TV, my first thought is "¡Cuidado, las llamas!" My occasional habit of answering questions with an absurdity or a non sequitur is solely because of them. To this day I'm still amazed that no tv comedy has even come close to emulating their brilliance.
Thanks to them, I remind myself that life can never be completely serious. In honor of their 40th Anniversary, here's a few of my favorite clips from the show. Enjoy!!
By far my all-time favorite, which of course comes to mind every time it's voting season...
Short and sweet, with no words at all. :)
My sister and I completely lost it watching this one during those MTV years.
Eric Idle doing what he was best at on this show--uncomfortable goofiness. :)
Sheer absurdity...followed by a wonderfully executed sound effect.
A very early sketch of theirs but another favorite--I find I quote Cleese's "oh it makes me mad!" a lot more than I really should...
And of course, Confuse-a-Cat. :)
