1. Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
Umm...let me get back to you on that. I don't have a concrete number and I left my videos up in MA. So I'd say I have about fifty dvds (counting box sets as one item), probably a few more...tapes? At least a hundred. Stuff I taped off the tv and/or copied from other places? At least a hundred more.
2. The last film I bought:
The House of Flying Daggers. The Drum dance and the fight in the bamboo forest are worth the price alone. One of the best martial arts movies I've ever seen. And a cool soundtrack, too!
3. The last film I watched:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which I was pleasantly surprised with. I was quite happy to see them fit so much of the book in the movie and still be completely different from it.
4. Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
Yellow Submarine because I grew up with that movie (I believe I still know 90% of the lines) and it introduced me to the wonder that is the Beatles.
The Quiet Man because it's a surprisingly good John Wayne movie that is wonderfully written, superbly acted, and beautifully shot.
Citizen Kane, which I watch pretty much to remind myself just how far I should push myself when I'm writing.
The Graduate and Catch-22, both because they're Mike Nichols films that I simply love for their writing, acting and cinematography. Movies that I watch simply because they're cooool.
5. Which five people am I passing the baton on to? And why?
emmalyon because she likes better movies than I do...
head58 because I know he loves memes that take up space on his LJ... :p
daevinanoctem because I don't talk to her nearly as much as I should...
betty_m because I know she loves these things...
and
lynxreign because I'm very curious as to what he'll put down...

Date: 2005-05-09 02:50 am (UTC)You're right, I am a film buff, but don't go quite as often as Iused to. Nor do I buy the movies, since I subscribe to cable. Although I plan on purchasing a DVD-R soon. That said, here are my answers:
1)Maybe 10
2)Ray--musical performance of Jamie Foxx's characterization were amazing. I love this movie.
3)On cable, I watched Red Dawn. A cold war paen to minute men in the 20th century colorado with members of the then current brat pack: e.g., Patrick Swayze, Rob and Chad Lowe, Demi Moore, etc. Plus, it has superfly --Ron O'Neal, RIP--, playing a Cuban general.
The Postman anyone?
4) a--Fearless -- I even acquired the book by Rafael Yglaesias. This movie stars one of the Bridges boys--Jeff Bridges; Isabella Rossalini; Rosie Perez, Tim Curry ; John Turturo; & the Q (
Maurice did the score, along with Mozart.
The acting is beautiful, lyrical and oh so sad. This movie is about overcoming depression and PTSD to live. The greatest scene, IMO, is Jeff Bridges, who is afraid of heights, standing on the edge of a building, atop a plastered flying buttress, and leaning backwards to see the view, the air behind him his only net.
b--Witness -- the world building--life among the Amish. Danny Glover is a bad guy--wow. Harrison Ford, so manley. And Kelly McGuinnis dancing to Sam Cooke. Squee!
c--The Godfather trilogy -- I just love it, love it, love it.
d--You've Got Mail -- a slight movie, but I totally identify with 40 year old Meg Ryan in this movie. I like her movies. all of them, including Restoration, with Robert Downey, Jr. See also Tom Hanks,
e--Any Cary Grant movie, whatever time it is on, whether it's action/adventure, mystery/thriller, comedic, urbane. He didn't like black people much, reportedly (nor did John Wayne, another favorite), but shit, you can make believe.
e--Any MGM musical.
