[Music] 1998
Jan. 29th, 2009 04:22 pmHere's some of my favorite songs and videos from 1998...stuff that I loved when I was working at HMV that didn't nearly get the kudos it should have gotten.
theaudience, "A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed", from their self-titled cd: This band came VERY close to be signed to A&M stateside, but they got dropped when PGD merged with UNI and bands dropped like flies. Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor is big in the UK as a chanteuse now...
Hooverphonic, "Eden", from Blue Wonder Power Milk: I absolutely adore this album. Well worth buying!
Belle & Sebastian, "The Boy with the Arab Strap", originally from the album of the same name: Ah, twee. I love songs that start off soft and just keep building up, like this one. This video is an interesting live take from Later with Jools Holland.
Air, "Sexy Boy" from Moon Safari: The 70s done right. What else can I say? ;)
Ultrasound, "Stay Young", originally from Everything Picture: Another Later with Jools Holland performance. This sadly underrated band lasted only one album and a handful of singles.
Mansun, "Negative", from Six. Criminally forgotten Britpop band (well, other than "Wide Open Space"), this was from their very weird but very great second album.
