Post #1: This can't be good...
Jan. 18th, 2006 05:00 pmSo I've been sitting inside all afternoon, job searching and doing all sorts of other stuff, right? So I figure I may as well get off my duff and get outside for awhile. First stop, Barnes & Noble down the street. Just in case my job search gets really desperate, I pick up an application which I can drop off whenever. I proceed to hang out for a little while, reading a few things and finding ZYZZYVA, a journal that publishes stories, artwork and poetry from West Coasters. I figure, why not, right? Being that I'm too cheap to pick up a copy at the moment, I write down the website for future research.
But that's not the bad part.
I only lasted about a half hour in the bookstore, and felt like going elsewhere, and being that Emm bought me a MUNI pass and I haven't used it to its full capability, I figure I may as well hop on the nearest cable car and have a little fun. Yes, you heard me right, I have now ridden on one of San Francisco's famous cable cars, and they are SMALL! You can only fit about 25-30 people tops in one of those things, and that's if everyone crunches together. So yeah, I take the Powell-Market line and proceed to go up....and up....and up....ten minutes later and I'm STILL going up, thus realizing Bill Cosby wasn't kidding about getting to the top of the hill and the car's still going up. One of my favorite skits of his, of course...anyway, finally we head downdowndowndowndowndowndown to the bottom where Powell meets Market Street.
So where does the cable car stop? In front of a five-floor new-and-used record store called Rasputin Music. For those in NJ, it's like a much larger version of Scotty's...for those in MA, it's very much like Newbury Comics.
Like I said. This can't be good.
Popped in and thankfully didn't spend any money there, but now I know where I can go to buy some music at really sweet deals--and they have a section on the 2nd floor that's specifically for selling your cds to them. I'll have to go again as I only went on the first and second floors (3rd thru 5th you need to take the elevator), just to see what they're all about. But from what I saw I was rather impressed, as their cds were on par with Scotty's and Newbury Comics--that is, a few bucks cheaper than the chain stores like Tower and Virgin.
Speaking of Virgin Records, there's a three-story Virgin Megastore two blocks from Rasputin on--get this--Stockton. Yes folks, I live on the same street as a record store.
Again, this can't be good. ;)
