For those of you who follow me over on my Tumblr site, you may have noticed I've decided to take part in Inktober, which I would describe as an artist's version of NaNoWriMo--draw something every day of the month and post it somewhere using the #inktober hashtag. The only rule being the end result has to be in ink (and again that leaves it wide open--I've used both my art pens and a ballpoint Bic from my back pocket). It's been fun so far, because I get to doodle something every day! I'm not going out of my way to make a masterpiece...just a caricature or a Murph drawing or something that usually takes no more than a half-hour tops to make, and post it using my phone.

This is on top of my ongoing attempt to ramp up the output. Per my last post, I did pretty good with hitting goal at 750Words.com 29 out of the 30 days. Some of those entries were just personal ramblings, but many of them ended up being exercises in figuring out who the characters in my latest project are. I'd have conversations with myself, asking 'what does [character] look like?' or 'what's their ultimate goal in the story?' and so on, and it really helped me figure out where it's going. The other goal of using 750Words is that it forces me to sit down and think about writing-related things for a bit--it's breaking the wall of procrastination that bites me in the ass so often. And ultimately, it's gotten me back to the 2001-2003 levels of dedication to my writing, which is what I've been aiming for. Those were the Trilogy years where I was down in the Belfry without fail, every single day, working on something...and this is exactly what I've been aiming for, and I'm quite happy about that.

Oh! And also, we have a new modem/router! Yay! Our 2Wire has been in the apartment for a few good years, and it was starting to crap out more than usual. It would drop at the most inopportune times, especially while we were working. I'll admit we were taxing it during the day, what with her terminal, my work router, and me streaming a radio station. This new one's a Pace and it's working a treat. Quite happy with it so far.

So. Today's goal, outside of writing? Ice cream! I heard tell that there's a nifty ice cream shop down in the Sunset on Noriega that we should check out. Has numerous flavors and they're made locally, and it's quite a find. We may just jump on the 29 today and check it out. :)

I've some internetty plans in store within the next few weeks that I think will be fun and kinda neat:

1. Since I've been getting a small but very positive response to my Blogging the Beatles posts (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kateelliott for the RTs!), I've decided that I'm going to speed up the series to twice a week. I'm thinking midweek, maybe Wednesdays or Thursdays. Originally I've been working on them on Sunday afternoons and posting them that evening, but I've decided that it would make more sense to work on them over the course of a few days, which will free up time for other things.

2. Somewhat related--after doing many of the BtB and settling into a familiar pattern of light research and personal past-and-present experience of the music, I came to the conclusion that this pattern would also fit quite nicely in how I'd like to present the music portion of Walk in Silence (the book project). So, that being said, in the next few weeks I will be presenting "official" WiS entries, focusing on albums, singles and/or single songs from the 'college rock' era. No set days for posting these as of yet, but they'll probably be on the off-days, in between the BtB posts.

3. I will be reviving the Dreamwidth poetry account as well. I've been inspired to revive writing poetry in my trusty composition notebooks, especially given that April has been National Poetry Month. I had a lot of fun posting them a few days a week a few years back, and I'd like to start doing that again. These will probably be on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

4. Time to start posting pictures on the Tumblr again. Scheduled for Wednesdays.

And through all of this, I'll be spending the evenings revising the Eden Cycle books. All of this planning is going to be insane, but damn it, I'm in full steam ahead mode now, and I don't want to lose it again.

So yes...Q2 in JoncWorld is starting to take shape in a good way. I will of course be keeping tabs here and elsewhere, just to let y'all know what's new on the sites. See you online soon!

Is it officially springtime yet? I don't remember. Then again, what with it starting to get sunny here on the west coast while the east coast gets hit with yet another snowstorm (as well as the time change that took place while we were on vacation in a state that doesn't observe it), I'm still a bit out of sorts there. I'm actually kind of surprised it's Saturday already.

So what's going on? It's been a while since I updated here, aside from the Scintilla posts. Been a while since I've posted anywhere, actually. My online presence has been sparse all around. Most of the time I've been working on the last stretch of the A Division of Souls revision, but I've just been tiring of online drama and trying to keep up with quick-witted Twitterings. In a way, I think I've just felt like living life at my own pace for awhile instead of trying to keep up with everyone else, and I'm feeling the better for it. Mentally I've been feeling a lot calmer and my thoughts have been clearer.

Now that I'm back on the mainland and back on track, I do plan on returning to my various writing projects this weekend. I need to continue working on the Blogging the Beatles posts, plus I have quite a few Hawaii pictures I'd like to put up on my Tumblr...I also want to work on Walk In Silence, as I've got a few ideas I'd like to work on.

I did manage to get a lot of cosmetic editing done on ADoS during my vacation (thanks to my Nook!), and hope to finish that up as well. I can see where I may need to back up and fix a few things from about halfway through and on to the end, but for the most part it's coming along well. I'm aiming for being done by mid-April and making the first steps for submission in May.

So! What are we doing this weekend? It's going to be a nice couple of days out there, so chances are good we may end up going for a walk in one of the parks. A bit of shopping (we emptied out our cupboards before we went on vacation), maybe a stop at Japantown (yay, manga and cupcakes!). It's been a crazy week of trying to catch up on sleep and get ourselves back on track, and I'm quite happy the weekend is here.

Been awhile since I've posted here...or anywhere, come to think of it. I've posted a few pictures at the Tumblr site, a comment here and there in the Twitbookverse, but not much at all here or at the writing LJ, or any poetry at the Dreamwidth site, really.

I could say I've been busy with Real Life, or Personal Things Came Up, or I Gave Up Writing and Became a Chartered Accountant, but that's not the case. To be honest, I did exactly what I said I'd be doing--unplugging from the internets for awhile. I chose not to post much if at all, chose to back away from a lot of internetty things that were wasting my time, and chose to spend that time a little more wisely. And to be even more honest, it was a VERY good choice. I'm feeling a little more grounded.

I'll continue with the honesty--I backed away from the creativity for awhile there, too. The temptation was great to get that word count in, to finish off that chapter revision, to write that poem, and so on...but I chose to ignore the temptation there as well. Instead I chose a simple goal: work on something every day. That's it--nothing specific, just get something done. As long as that happened and the day wasn't a total waste, I was happy.

And yes, I kept myself busy. I revised four chapters of A Division of Souls--including one mother of a completely rewritten scene that took a lot out of me; I bought a new camera (actually a refurbished model), a Samsung WB210 14 megapixel and have been taking many local pictures; I've been working on the Walk in Silence project and reading many books for research (I must give Green Apple Books, my local new-and-used book stores, BIG props for their Most Excellent Music Book section) and recently got a good chunk of word count done for it.

To the shock of some of you, I've even been ignoring a lot of new music lately. Not that I've decided to give up my Indie Cred and throw out my radio, of course...I've just been listening to a lot of 80s music lately, primarily to refamiliarize myself with it for the Walk in Silence project. Not that I'm ignoring it completely...I've been obsessing over the new Mutemath album for the past month, for starters. Just doing a lot of listening to older stuff, is all.

As for the self-imposed writing schedule I created at the start of the year? I'd like to think I followed it for the most part, aside from my self-exile of the last month or so. There were a number of deviations as life and projects allowed, and I'd planned and expected that from the outset. Ultimately, though, I think it was a success. I'll be reviewing it at the end of December, tweak what needs tweaking, and go from there.

So...now what?

I think it's time to return to the fold. Time to return to the writing schedule. The internet posting is probably going to look a little different...I have multiple sites to post at now, so you probably won't see me popping up on a daily basis. You'll probably see me here at this LJ the most, as I'll be providing links to my other sites, as well as updating the day-to-day stuff that happens in my life, but I'll be around elsewhere as well.

It's good to be back.
