So yes! Yesterday we drove down to San Mateo for the Bay Area Maker Faire and had quite a fun time. Many strange and silly (and nerdy and intellectual) things were to be seen. So without further ado, pictures from the geekfest below the cut!

Warning: Science (and Other Weird Things) Ahead )

So yes...quite a lot of things seen and done, played with or eaten (yes, we had funnel cake!), and it was a hell of a lot of fun. So much so that I was dead tired by the time we got home! It was well worth it, though...lots of silly, geeky fun.

Happy Holidays from the reindeer at the SF Zoo! :p

Snow leopard sez "I WILL EAT YOU." Kitty was grumpy as it had recently gotten up from a nap and didn't like the little kid that was nearby. Also, it barked at me as well.

Black swan sez "WHAT." Apparently he/she wasn't too happy about us taking pictures either, although there were a few annoying mallards in the pond as well that were making everyone else irritable.

The kangaroos are actually awake! Every time we went by their enclosure they were always asleep, sprawled on the ground with the local peacocks stealing their food. These guys were awake and actually hopping around the place.

Meanwhile, Mr. Meerkat keeps a watchful eye on any predators, including howling five-year-olds who think meerkats are the Most Awesome Thing Evar.

And one of many ring-tailed lemurs keeping a watchful eye on...something.

OUTTAKE: What happens when your camera's too slow and the lemur gets bored of posing:

Finally, a family portrait of sorts over at the African Savannah. I should note that this enclosure is at the southwestern end of the zoo, and when we're driving on Great Highway back from Target, we can sometimes see the giraffe heads poking up. :)

Taken about 7am yesterday morning out our living room window.

(Yes, it was in fact referring to the orchid behind the sign, but still...)

...and it would still crack me up. :p

Taken at the southwest corner of Mission Dolores Park (found here on Google Maps), looking towards the center of the city.

And I think I have the Golden Gate Bridge here somewhere...

O HAI there it is!

This was taken last Sunday when we took Emm's parents to the Legion of Honor Museum and then over at a pathway that used to be a trolley path. So yeah, that's what normal SF fog looks like. :p

Unfortunately, both [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon and I woke up at aroudn 5:30 this morning because neither of us could sleep (and we'd both been partially awake since about 3:30), so we both made do with drinking coffee and watching morning television--really, why is it that all these channels we have show paid programming overnight, when we know they have 24-hour programming??--and generally trying to wake up.

On the plus side, we made our way down to the farmer's market at the Ferry Building to buy random foodstuffs (including golden beets! yum!) and taking a few neat pictures before my camera battery started dying on me:

A picture of the skating rink at Justin Herman Plaza, just across the street from the Ferry Building:

(For you music fans, it's the same place where this scene from Rattle and Hum was filmed.)

And a cool shot of the Bay Bridge engulfed in fog:

After dropping our food off at the apartment, we went for lunch at Pat's Cafe up the street, where I had some banana and granola pancakes that were huge and more tasty than they had any right to be. As said to Emm, this was a dish where I thought, now why did I think of this?? And now we're back, being lazy and watching college football.

Tomorrow? A bit of Christmas shopping in Daly City (I know, we should know better) and not much else. We're doing most of our shopping online, so this is mostly for random stuff we can't find elsewhere (and throwing in some random stuff we may need around the house as well). This shopping season is disturbingly calm for us...

Right now I probably should be writing (and Emm is being creative by knitting, so I have no reason not to be), but I just finished cleaning up my computer, which did need it...but now I don't have anything else to distract me, so off I go! :p

Hey all!

Sitting at the 'puter here in lovely sunny (and much cooler) San Francisco, already unpacked, relaxing with the internets and/or a good book while Olympic boxing plays in the background. We'll most likely be doing very little this afternoon, instead just reveling in the fact that we're home. I have pictures uploaded (not many con-related, but a few good downtown Denver pix) and ready to be posted at some point.

Heck, here's a teaser for you. It's the large bear I mentioned in an earlier post. :p

Apparently the big blue lug wants into the Convention Center (where Denvention was), but he's doomed to forever be stuck outside. Is teh sadness... :p

I will go with a more detailed post later on (or tomorrow), sort of a review of the Worldcon, downtown Denver, and other fun things....

Beer, Sports, Internets, and a Place to Get Hitched. And this is the New England-based bar the next block down from us.

I love my neighborhood. :p
