Our city is so ridiculously photogenic...

*ahem* ANYWAY, A had last week off, so instead of me being an unsocial lump hiding in Spare Oom, we went for numerous walks around various parts of the city, including the Presidio marching grounds/Crissy Field area. Far too many pictures were taken and I'm sure we got at least a dozen or so miles in over the course of those few days. And yesterday afternoon we streamed SF Ballet's Nutcracker, considering we've gone to it at the Opera House almost every single year we've been here. All in all, an enjoyable and rigorous vacation despite the lockdown.

So what did I *not* do over last week? Yup. I didn't do any writing. I posted a couple of sort-of fly-bys at Welcome to Bridgetown, but that's it. No revision, no new words, not even any daily words at the 750. Normally this lack of productivity this time of year would have been caused by Q4 madness at the Day Job, which would have annoyed and frustrated me to no end, but this time out it helped me remember that simply enjoying real life and the great outdoors is definitely a good (and healthy) thing as well.

So what am I doing today? Catching up, of course! Time to write some blog posts, do some revision, create some new words! (And somewhere in there, wrap A's Christmas presents.) Time to think about long-term 2021 plans for job searching and freelance work. Time to get moving again!

A much quieter and more fruitful sleep last night, it seems. Downstairs neighbor was quiet, and I took a decongestant and put on a snore strip so I wouldn't keep everyone else (including myself) up. We are now hanging out in the living room watching NFL GameDay Live and vegging out until it's time for us to head out to the Symphony.

Here's one of my favorite interpretations of what we're going to see:

Sort of Fantasia as made by Gerald Scarfe, no? ;)

Happy Autumn! Emm and I took a nice long walk in the Presidio yesterday, and walked through the Presidio Heights/Pacific Heights area over to Fillmore, where we cut down to Japantown for lunch. As you can see, our autumn doesn't have the change of foliage colors like New England does. It's actually the warmest and nicest time of the year for us, and the fog clears up quicker than usual out our way. Looking forward to enjoying the weather while we have it!

Let's see...what else...the revision of Chapter 6 is slow going--just like Chapter 5 did, and I think I know why. Again, I like what the scene does, but it's not written the right way. I think one of the reasons is that the character isn't really himself. This scene is from Nehale's point of view, the same person who kicked off the trilogy with an intensely strong Awakening ritual, but he seems so powerless and unfocused here. This means that I'll have to do some major rewriting of the scene to make it work. It's a chore, but it's gotta be done, and I think I can do it.

Other than that...not much else to report! Hope everyone's been having a good weekend!

1. A picture of our neighborhood from the parking lot near the Presidio Landmark apartments, taken earlier today.

2. I love the new scanner I bought. I still need to figure out how to change the settings to color and get photocopy quality, but for now I like the fact that at this point, I'm at least getting a goodly amount of digitizing done, and that's what's important. I want to at least get the writing and the artwork scanned. Any other stuff that needs high-quality digitizing, well, I can figure that out when I get to it.

3. One more week of work, and then [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon and I are on vacation to the east coast! We'll be visiting Boston for the first half of the week, and then hanging out in western MA for the rest of the time. Looking forward to it!

4. I'm having a hell of a time trying to revise/rewrite the opening scene in Chapter 1 of A Division of Souls and it's bugging the hell out of me. I think it might be that I'm out of touch with the story...I may need to give the opening a good strong reread before I start pulling it apart.

5. On the other hand, the revision for Love Like Blood is going strong. Considering I'm on Chapter 3 and I only started revising in the middle of last month, I think that's pretty good. I plan on ramping the speed a little more, maybe get at it at least halfway done by next month.

For tomorrow: a possible walk to the ocean and breakfast at Louis' Restaurant if it's not too crowded, more scanning, a bit of writing, other house errands, and not too much else. It's been a pretty relaxing weekend so far.
