Wait, Christmas is next Tuesday??  Eep!  Okay, I think I got all my shopping done...I should probably do some last minute shopping to cover my butt.  Heh.  Seriously, the last few years have been kind of slim on presents, if only because we keep saying 'eh, we don't need anything'.  Gift cards seem to be a much better idea as the years go on, it seems, and I'm down with that.  I've bought some sweet box sets out of combining the GCs I'd get over the years.

But yes, I'm counting down the days until the end of the year, like I always do.  Finishing up the things that need finishing, prepping the things I'll be starting in the new year, and all that.  The last couple of months have been a whirlwind of unexpected changes combined with equally unexpected (but quite welcome) clarity, and I have to embrace them.  I'm glad I've been able to deal with it all with a clear and positive mind, which is not something I was known for in the past.

The Day Job situation continues to be irritating, but I've become inured to the stress and the frustration for the first time in years.  It is what it is, and I've finally managed to train myself not to freak out and wind myself up.  I'm nervous about looking for a new position somewhere, but if I remain positive and refuse to give up at the first sign of failure, I can make this all happen.  I've done it before...I can do it again.

Hope everyone has a great week!

D'OH!  Had a somewhat busy weekend and completely forgot to post something this weekend.  Not that I have much to report at the moment...the Day Job is what it is and I'm trying to think about it as little as possible while I try to look for a replacement.  The current plan is to apply for a number of AP/AR positions, as that's pretty much my forte at this point.

So why were we busy this weekend, you ask?  Well!  We had errands to do on Saturday, and on Sunday I had to drive A down to City Hall so she could take her class on how to run a polling place.  Yes!  A will be manning one of the numerous polling places in the neighborhood on the 6th.  While I was there I figured I'd vote early to get it out of the way.  Our ballot was long (though I've seen longer) and for the most part easy to parse, considering all except one or two propositions were actually good ideas.  [One was a Really Horrible Idea suggesting we get rid of spending money on road repair and upkeep so we could save money on gas and taxes.  Suffice it to say, the Libertarian Party thought that one was just peachy. *facepalm*]  As I'd said to A on the way home yesterday, 'We did our duty in smashing the conservative patriarchy today.'  Heh.

Meanwhile, the writing is going.  I'm of course in the post-writing pre-release doldrums in which there's not much at all to report other than that I'm slowly slogging my way through revision.  I'm of course not planning on doing NaNoWriMo, though I think I might give myself some mental exercise regardless by working on some possible ideas using the 750.  Nothing serious, just something to work on.  I don't plan on it becoming another project, but if it ends up being one, I'm down with that.

Hope everyone has a good week!

We're back!  A and I took a small weekend vacation up in Mendocino and Fort Bragg just for a bit of relaxation.   It's a long drive, but it's worth it and quite fun.  It just so happens that we were up there the same exact weekend as last year, as once again we ran into Fort Bragg's classic cars show. We checked that out, and also visited the botanical gardens up there.  Thankfully the weather stayed in the upper 60s and low 70s this time out!

Somehow in between all that driving and mini-vacationing, I managed to update today's Bridgetown blog, but more importantly I managed to do a good read-through of about half of In My Blue World.  (I'd saved most of it to doc files, and I signed onto 750 to read more of it.)  I'm glad to say that it's solid for the most part, and that most of what needs fixing can be done quickly and easily.  A few characters that need straightening out, a few weak points that need strengthening, a few plot points that need tightening.  All is on schedule so far, so if I can get this book done by the end of the month, that will give me the entirety of July to work on the revision and post-production work.

I didn't get to read what I have of the Apartment Complex story yet, but I think it's too early for that, given that I only restarted it a short time ago.  I'm going to do the same here, just keep plugging away at it until I'm nearly done and then give it a good once-over.

*Looks at calendar*  Huh.  Unless I forgot to add something, I don't have outside events until next Thursday when I have to go in to Concord for work.  Yay!  [Well, I was supposed to go in for some training thing as well, but they keep cancelling and rescheduling it.  So no idea when I'm supposed to go in for that at this time.]  No big plans this week other than grocery shopping today because our cupboards are embarrassingly bare.

Hope everyone has a good week! :)

It's the halfway point of my week's vacation where it goes from 'ah, we have all week to relax and have fun' to 'O NOES where did the time go we only have a few days left'. Not that I'm complaining...it's been quite a fun and interesting week!

Weekend: headed to FOGcon up in Walnut Creek and had what I called my 'soft open' debut as an author on a panel! I had two panels, actually: one was a reading, and the other was a discussion about self-publishing marketing strategies. I'll be honest, it did feel a bit strange to be there as a pro as well as a fan. One of the best parts, though, was when someone walked up to me later on and thanked me for the info I'd provided on the self-publishing panel! :)

Monday: Heading downtown to visit A's brother and have lunch in our old neighborhood of North Beach. It hasn't changed much at all, and a lot of our favorite Italian restaurants were still there and doing just fine. :)

Tuesday: Long road trip down to San Jose to visit the Winchester Mystery House. Very odd place, that. This is what happens when you have way too much money and maybe a bit of paranoia to go along with it.

Today: Downtown once more to the Golden Gate Theater to see Into the Woods! I haven't seen that since I was in college, so this should be a lot of fun!

Tomorrow: Our internets may be down for a short while, as we are switching over to a new internet provider called Sonic. If you recall our nightmarish dealings with AT&T a few months previous, this will hopefully be a big change for us. I've heard nothing but really good reviews from them. In fact I kind of helped them install wires to our building by giving them the contact info to our landlords so they can plan stuff out. The only downside was that it took a couple of months for them to get to us -- apparently our entire neighborhood desperately wants to change over as well!

Friday: Nothing planned that I can remember off the top of my head. This may be one of our 'lounging around the house doing nothing except watching Midsomer Murders' days. :p

Saturday: No plans, but probably errands like food shopping and cleaning.

Sunday: Grumbling that we'll need to head back to work the next day, and log onto our work emails to clean out the box so we're not hit by an avalanche on Monday morning.

OH! Meant to mention: while at FOGcon, we decided that it would be in my best interests to also attend BayCon this year as an author as well. I'm not the biggest fan of this year's theme (utopia/dystopia), but it does kinda sorta fit with the setting of the Mendaihu Universe. But here's the really neat thing: I contacted BayCon programming and asked if there were any spots open for panel participation, and was told that even though the initial deadline to sign up for that had come and gone (2/23), they checked out my Welcome to Bridgetown writing blog and made an exception!! They sent me a survey to fill out for what panels I'd be interested in, which I sent back right quick. WOO! This new professional avenue for my writing is going a lot faster than expected! Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but still...glad that it's going in the direction I want it! :D

So yeah, that's our week so far....hope everyone else is having a good week!
