WELP.  So much for NaNo for me.  I really should know better.  I'm just too busy with other things in my life in November to ever be able to take part in this.  Granted, if I'd come up with a much more likable story I might have stayed on a a bit longer...I just found it a tedious mess and didn't enjoy writing it at all, so I gave that idea up after two outings.  Ah well.  Lesson hopefully and FINALLY learned this time.

Not to say that I'm not writing... I'm just not working on a long-term project at the moment for it. I've decided instead to do small daily exercises at 750Words instead, just to keep myself in writing shape.  Even then I'm not sure if I'll be able to hit it every single day... like I said, I've just been stupidly busy, between Day Job stuff and personal goings-on.  I've even put my WordPress blogging off for a few weeks so I can put my mind back in order.

Am I tiring myself out?  Maybe, maybe not. It's not as if I'm working ten hour days at a warehouse lugging 30-40 lb boxes like I did at Yankee Candle.  But I'm doing a lot of behind-the-scenes things at the moment that kind of take precedence -- the revision work, the job searching, and so on.

Anyhoo...not going to worry about it. Just going to put 'keep my sanity' at the top of the Things I Need to Do in November' list and leave it at that. :)

Hope everyone has a lovely rest of the week!

A shout-out to anyone who's doing NaNoWriMo this year!  Against my better judgement, I am kinda-sorta working on a project for the hell of it, just to keep my writing juices flowing while I continue to be bogged down in Revision Hell.  I'm not aiming to hit the 50k mark, nor am I aiming to write every single day, as I need to keep my main focus on revising In My Blue World.  My NaNo project happens to be an experiment in writing dystopia; in particular, I'm taking a crack at my "Noah and the Schoolyard" story idea and crossing it with horror anime style (such as Assassination Classroom and the like) to push my boundaries...I'm curious to see how far I can take this. I doubt it'll be worth publishing, but what the hell, right?

Speaking of NaNo, A is also taking part this year!  She's in the living room writing a mystery novel.  I am absolutely convinced that she'll write a best-seller in her first try while I continue to struggle and write crap, because that's the kind of person she is. :p  Seriously, though...it's kind of strange for the house to be this quiet.  Usually I'll have music on and she'll be watching TV, but there's no TV tonight.  Welcome to the dark side!  Heh.

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend!

*sigh* Every time I try to join in the fun, something comes up in life that takes up my time or takes precedence in terms of importance. I've wanted to do it ever since hearing about it some years ago, but never quite found the time.

This year my personal schedule's pretty open. The only thing I have on the writing schedule is revision work, which takes up most of my evenings. I do my poetry on Sundays. I write the Walk In Silence notes and outtakes at work during breaks. I don't really have any completely *new* ideas that I'd like to try out, though there are some old ones I could certainly revive. I may have time to do NaNo this month, but I'm not entirely sure. I can do a thousand words a day if I put my mind to it, that's not the problem...it's the decision as to whether or not I should do it.

More on this by the end of the day.

No, really! I'm trying something here...I'm not committing to NaNoWriMo at all...just trying to make it a point to actually get something done every night this month. I did just shy of 350 words last night in a half hour (other things distracted me, I admit), which isn't much, but it's progress in the right direction. So yeah, no 50k words for me this month...just a goal of progress.

Good enough for me. :)

Hmm. I know where I want chapter 10 to go, but it's just not getting there yet. *sigh*

I think I might just make some quickie notes instead (like I did with Chapter 6) and then skip over to the ADoS reread and call it a day.

Okay, so I'm starting my own version of NaNo a day late, ah well. Couldn't be helped, since I had some heavyduty PC fixin' to do. It all went well, though, and there's only a small number of programs I still need to upload/update/upgrade. And we've done all our errands (including laundry and shopping) so I don't have any more reason to goof off.

This does, however, bring up the fact that I've only had the full version of MSOffice (the 2003 version) for just a few years, and now I see that they've updated to the 2007, which I ended up needing to download (come to find out, I only had the upgrade cd, not the entire program)...but MAN, is it shiny! I'm gonna have to deal with spending that extra money now, since I LOVE the new layout.

Okay, enough wasting time...TIME TO WRITE!

Okay, so it's November first, and pretty much all my writing friends here on LJ are jumping in on NaNo, so I commend you all and hope you reach all your goals!! :) Even [livejournal.com profile] emmalyonis getting in on the action, doing NaKniSweMo this year!

As for me...? Unfortunately it looks like another year where I'm too busy with other things to be able to write a novel in a month, so I've decided I'm going to tweak NaNo to my own purposes, and it's twofold:

--Use the month of November to finish off the projects I'm working on
--Train myself to speed up my workflow

The first one would be the kinda-sorta NaNo challenge for me, as this would include not only the Can't Find My Way Home outline but getting as far as I can with the trilogy website planning (finish reading/tweaking A Division of Souls, write up a few teaser posts, etc). If I still have time left, I will add the various Love Like Blood 2 projects. The main goal is to finish off these projects, or at least get as far as I can on them before the end of the month.

The second one is sort of more important and is kinda the outcome of the first...although I've been a lot more consistent with my work, which I felt was more important to focus on for awhile, I feel it's nearly time to work on volume. I can do a lot more than a couple hundred words a day...I just have to work at it. And the outcome of this one is to train myself out of procrastination and getting easily sidetracked.

So all in all, not exactly writing and completing a novel, but I'm aiming for similar goals, and that's good enough for me. It's going to be a busy couple of weeks all around, and I doubt I'll be posting much around these parts, or at least as much as I normally do (with the exception of November 4th--that's a given, whichever way that day ends up), but I'll try to check in either here or on [livejournal.com profile] jonchaissonwith updates!

So!
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Good luck NaNo'ers!

See you at the finish line!

...for the following reasons:

--busy (and possible good news, more on that later) at work
--working on LLB rewrite
--forgot about it until too late (despite half my flist going all asquee about it :p )
--other projects going on (including possible TCoDC idea formation)
--just getting back from vacation

At least these are mundane reasons, unlike the last few years:
--mandatory overtime sapping all the energy out of me
--preparing for a move to California
--too busy trying to finish a different novel

Ah well...one of these day's I'll do it...
