So today [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon and I are heading down to East Palo Alto to the IKEA to pick up a new bookshelf. This one's going to replace one of the shorter two-shelf bookcases in Spare Oom, so we can finally give in and actually have more space for some of our books. [This would explain the subject line, if you know IKEA's odd Swedengish naming devices for their furniture. Why they call these bookcases "Billy" I have no idea.]

There's also the chance that I may pick up a new desk as well. My current one (also bought at IKEA, back in 2005 in New Jersey) is in decent shape, if a bit dinged here and there. Since I've been working at home, I've been thinking of getting one more like Emm's that has a few drawers up top but the underneath is totally open. The reason for this is to move my PC underneath there, so I can free up desk space--this is so my work-at-home stuff won't be crowded up and squished into a small area. I may have to buy one or two more storage boxes for the errant stuff I have in my drawers, but that shouldn't be a problem, they're pretty cheap there.

That said...this will ultimately mean that I need to get rid of the old desk, which I think I'm probably going to do on Craigslist. I'm totally fine with giving it away at this point, it's served me well. If no one wants it, I can definitely call our local Goodwill and see if they can pick it up.

Oh! And there's a Best Buy across the street from the IKEA...so we can go over there and see if they have one of these little jobbies. We have one already for Spare Oom, and I'm thinking of getting another for Spare Oom so I can use one for the home PC and the other for work, without having to switch back and forth. They work wonders, actually. :)

So yeah, that's our exciting Saturday. What's up with y'all?

Spent WAY too much money at IKEA across the bay (thanks to my in-laws for the gift certificate!!). We now have more furniture!

Will take more pictures soon...for now, we're having lunch and will soon spend the rest of the afternoon putting stuff together. :)

Also later: my post o' future plans, predictions and resolutions, writing and otherwise. :)

EDIT: Just got back from another trip to IKEA...it seems someone in the warehouse put the wrong chairs in the bin, so we ended up with one that we wanted and three that didn't match (and added to that, the wrong ones weren't on sale so it was an extra $30 each). Worth the trip though, because they look quite nice!

So for your enjoyment, behold, THE BOXES-O-COUCH:

The two larger ones were about 4' by 2' by 2' (rough estimate), and the smaller one is an additional ottoman that we ordered along with the sofa. So yes...pretty compact and well packed, as the cushions were pretty much shrinkwrapped/spacebagged for minimum taking up of space.

During and After Pix under the cut! )

So yes, Home Reserve definitely FOR THE WIN! :)

So! The loveseat somehow made it via a bit of elbow grease and finagling (okay, not much, just that it was a bit tight there for a few seconds) into the back room/library/study, and we're currently without couch in the living room. I have now unpacked all the pieces and they are ready for assembly. All we need is a Phillips screwdriver. No glue! :)

JUSTICE COUCH, ASSEMBLLLLLE!!!!

*ahem* sorry.

Anyway...will take before/after pix soon. Somehow I've lost the boxes-o'-couch picture, but will post if I've just merely misplaced it. I've just taken a pic of the unassembleed frame bits.

More soon!

It just so happens that our new couch is being delivered today...the same day we're heading into town to go to the symphony. D'OH! Hopefully they'll either swing by after we return, or they'll at least make an attempt tomorrow when we're definitely here. We won't be gone more than a few hours (come on, we can't pass up having lunch at Max's!), so there's a slim chance that we may run into them today. We hope. If not, one of us will just have to hang out all day until they stop by again.

Other than that...? More writing for me upon return. :)

EDIT: YAY! They stopped by early this morning with the boxes o' couch! No need to hurry back now... :D Now our plan this weekend is to A)move stuff in the back room to B)fit the loveseat in there so we can C)make room for the new sofa and ottoman which D)we have to put together IKEA-style. We're thinking this will happen on Sunday whilst watching football. :)

So I'm still in the market for a new chair for my desk. I saw some affordable director's chairs at World Market (which I still say are more comfortable and better on my back than the rolling chairs I've had due to the way I sit, but I digress) that I might look into. I'm also looking at some of the cheaper rolling chairs online. There's a cheaper version of the one I have at work here (it has a mesh backing and seat) that's in the running as well.

For a bit I was curious as to when I bought my current chair, which is starting to fall apart, as I couldn't remember how long I've had it. Part of the seat back is ripped (I think due to both the rivets in my jeans and the stuff I put in my back pockets like my keys, pad and pens), and the pneumatic lift is starting to go.

So lo and behold, I found a post on my writing blog from 11/19/06 as to when I bought it--so two and a half years have passed since I got that chair! Sounds about right...so I think the above things are good enough reasons to buy a new one! :p

And maybe at some later point I'll look into another wireless keyboard. Either that, or I'll just move the keyboard wire around so it comes up under the desk and in front of the desk rather than from behind, as I want to try my old habit of having the keyboard in my lap again. Having it at that level seems to work pretty well for me.

More on this later...in the meantime, any suggestions for new office furniture are welcome! :)
