Very odd dream courtesy of being somewhat ill last night. Had a busy schedule with work, picking up people, and driving around town trying to find parking, but eventually made it to a large gathering at a school, where I met up with a bunch of people I've known throughout the years, from high school to college to work, along with others I didn't know so well. We were all gathering here because supposedly there was supposed to be some big 'end of the world' thing going on...like some life cycle was ending. Not exactly the Rapture, or the Apocalypse, or the destruction of 2012, but we didn't exactly know what was going to happen. Some of us slept through the night but some like me stayed up because we didn't want to miss anything. The interesting thing is that we were all distracted by all sorts of things (catching up with friends, being irritated that this event wasn't working out as planned, playing games, etc) so midnight came and went. The next morning I'm handed the local Sunday paper (I knew it was Sunday because it was thick with multiple sections)...and am quite irritated to see a large pull-out section advertising a "post-event" sale--no idea what they're selling, but they're jumping on the end-of-the-world bandwagon something fierce. I look dejectedly at the ads and think Really? We've gotten that bad?

I have to say this is the one thing I like about being sick--my dreams tend to be all weird. :)

Woke up from an odd dream this morning with my first thought being "this should TOTALLY be a manga."

It involved a girls' dormitory at a Christian college, centering around one girl who's like a mentor for younger girls at the dorm. She lives in a dorm that's seven stories high, and each floor somehow represents (in theory and in real life, as most silly mangas do) a level of hell and/or heaven. The lead lives on floor 7, Heaven, which is cool except that inexplicably there's a mom & pop store (in New England-speak, this store would be a 'packie', as yes, it did have beer and other liquor) at the end of one of the hallways. The packie being there through the maxim "Heaven is what you make it" (the overall theme of the story), and apparently having a packie close at hand was some student's idea of ideal heaven. :p

I can only wonder what kind of shojo manga silliness would unfold in this setting...

[Note to self: this could easily play out as a YA novel and/or series...still, I totally see it as a manga...]
