It's been a couple of busy weeks here, juggling the ever-changing day job schedule and digging my way through a rather important but weakly written sequence for Theadia. The blogs kind of fell by the wayside a bit (obviously) as did some of the other creative things I wanted to do, but so it goes.

But it's not all bad, really. As I've said before, I've rediscovered that I actually enjoy IRL contact with the outside world. I meet all sorts of interesting locals at the day job...some of them love to talk, some can't be arsed to say a thing and leave before the receipt prints. Several have told me how much they appreciate the shop being there. I might be old enough to be the parent of half the kids I work with (one was shocked to hear I was her mom's age) but we all get along well. I get to people-watch and learn the similarities (the uptip of the chin when I call out for the next person in line) and differences (the old Russian lady that tries to haggle the prices). Picking up on different things I wouldn't have seen in the bank universe. Things that could make my characters that much more vibrant.

I've also relearned to live day to day, week to week again. Every Thursday night next week's schedule goes up, and we both get to plan out what's going on: when I'm home for lunch or dinner, when I'll have time (morning or evening) to write, when I'll need to do the laundry or do the grocery shopping, and so on. It's definitely different from the remote days for the FDJ or even the unemployed pandemic days when I had a lot more flexibility (and, let's be honest, squandered a considerable amount of it fucking around online). I don't really mind it all that much, because it forces me not to think about long-term deadlines. Each day is a "get at least this much done" compartmentalizing that works so much better on my brain.

I mean, I'd done this back in my old retail days, and weirdly enough I'd completely forgotten how compatible this process is for me. It's not the biggest paycheck, and I don't get to listen to KEXP nearly as much as I used to, but it's a hell of a lot better than my bank days, that's for sure.

day to day

Today is my Friday. That is, I have tomorrow and Saturday off so I can relax! I'm actually kind of excited about it, as I haven't had two days off in a row these last few weeks. (My schedule has been more of a broken up two-days-on, one-day-off, three-days-on, one-day-off sort of thing lately.) Do I have plans? Yes! On Saturday afternoon A and I will be going to lunch and a play downtown. And tomorrow I might head to Amoeba Records for some music and dvd shopping therapy, heh.

Speaking of work, hopefully the boss will be posting the new schedule at some point today, as I do not yet have the access online to see it. Not sure who I need to contact to fix that, but I do need to call HR anyway to set a few other things up, so hopefully they can do it or point me in the right direction. And yes, I'm hoping next week's schedule is just as workable as this week's was!

Anyhoo. If I'm learning anything at this Current Day Job, it's that it's probably good and healthy that I'm relearning how to interact with other people in person again. And that I've always kind of enjoyed it, really! I mean, as much as I would love another remote job, maybe it's also good that I've put myself back out there to remember how other people live. It's kind of eye-opening, to be honest. And so much different than just interacting with people online.

So yesterday was kinda sorta a dry run for my New Day Job. I went in thinking I was only going to be there to finish off some paperwork I didn't get to on Wednesday, but spent the remainder of the afternoon hours to get a full eight-hour shift, in which I did five of them at the register.

When was the last time I did register work...? Wow, that would have been HMV, twenty-two years ago. Damn.

ANYWAY. It all came back to me pretty quickly, only this time with better registers and decent floor coverage. I forgot a few things (such as charging for bags, which I did maybe half the time) and there was a random customer survey thing that I completely forgot about (oops), but all in all it worked out just fine. And yes, I love that I have a ten minute/eight block commute. Five minutes if I take the 1 California bus.

So how do I feel, being back in retail for the first time in years? Well, I said this to A yesterday, and also said it on Twitter:

This may be a retail job, and I might be exhausted and/or in pain at the end of the day, and my schedule might be wonky AF for a while, but I had absolutely ZERO STRESS. I would take this job over returning to the bank any day. I felt more connected to customers and coworkers in one day than I did with fourteen years putting out monetary and coding fires. Even during the busy moments (noted: everyone shops for stuff at the end of the work day, around 4-6pm) there was no incentive or expectation to be OHMYFUCKINGGODINEEDTOGETTHROUGHEVERYTHINGRIGHTTHISVERYFUCKINGSECONDORITSGOINGTOEXPLODE levels of stressed out. Just...take each person as they come and get through it. Be friendly and do a decent job. That's it.

Being friendly to a shop customer costs nothing, and you know what? That's all they ask for, just a normal human connection, however brief. With the bank, almost every single department or client I worked with had ZERO sense of humor, had to get things done two weeks ago, and always seemed to be on the edge of either breakdown or blowup. Working in business banking, in my experience, was all about Always Being Freaked The Fuck Out, usually self-caused due to last minute payments and lack of education on their own systems. ["I don't know, I just press a button and send it" was a frequent comment.] Banking is a toxic atmosphere, and it's because the expectations are so goddamn high. [This is why I'm super nice to tellers. That, and my mom used to be one and I've heard the occasional horror story.]

Working retail might be physically exhausting at times, sure, but emotionally it's SO much less demanding. And that's all I've wanted, really. The ability to get a paycheck and still have the spoons to get some words done at the end (or start) of the day. And yes, I did in fact get some words done, even though they were done on the couch while dealing with a sore back and aching feet. Heh.

Will I be there for years on end? Well, who knows. I'm there Until Further Notice. If I find something that's a better fit, fine. If I'm there for a couple of years, that's cool too. As long as I'm getting a paycheck, and as long as I can still write, that's all that matters.

Today is Friday so of course I'm terribly distracted by new music releases (this new Bob Moses record is just as amazing as I'd hoped!), but somehow I've managed to squeeze a few more words out regardless.

Revision/rewrite work continues apace for Theadia. Some days I'm merely tidying up an already-written chapter, but other days I'm inserting brand new scenes, like I've been doing these last couple of days. These other primary characters are just as important as our titular heroes and their immediate friends and family, so I've been inserting them in as neceessary The end result is that this is turning into a Big Ensemble book, and you know how much I love writing those!

It's hard work, but it's fun work. I love the process of giving this book its proper pace and style. I love giving these characters room to breathe with their own personalities and quirks. I love knowing ahead of time that their fates are intertwined and working to make that happen in the right ways. I could say it's a bit like weaving a huge tapestry, which is apt, because this novel has deliberate connections to the crafts of weaving and knitting! Heh.

Job Updatery: So yes, looks like it's 95% official, I now work part-time for Andronico's Super Market eight blocks due west of me. The 5% holdout here is that I'm yet to wait for the legal paperwork to clear on their end. The store manager says they've just installed a new hiring process software that is still buggy AF (surprise surprise) so eventually I should get a call from them to set up a start date and a schedule. More soon as this unfolds...

It's Sunday afternoon which of course means it's time to write blog posts, do the laundry, and figure out what I'm going to do this coming week. We both have tomorrow off but nothing planned other than probably going out for a walk or ordering out or something like that. I do in fact have something tomorrow -- I have a phone interview! Yes, I managed to get past the online application level and I'll be speaking with a hiring rep via Teams. No major details yet other than this is actually for a very local (as in right up the street) retail position. I'm totally fine with sliding back into that job field at this point.

I was thinking about it the other day, actually...back when I worked retail and later at the YC warehouse, I actually enjoyed the level of work I had to do that kept me busy and somewhat social. Some of it did include a bit of mental gymnastics, but not so much that I was mentally exhausted by the end of the day. I realize now that was what banking did to me over the years, and that is totally NOT what I want to encounter again. Hell, whether I'm working a register or restocking or doing back office stuff, as long as I can still do my writing at the end of the day, yeah? That's the most important part of it. (And in a weird way, I kind of miss the social aspect of that kind of job. Not just the coworkers but dealing with other people in particular. Yes, even during this stupidass pandemic.)

So yeah...we'll know what happens in a few days, hopefully!

Dreamwidth is so weird sometimes. I can't seem to tell if it likes or hates my VPN software. Sometimes I'll log in with no problem (like today) and sometimes I'll get a 404 error instead (yesterday). And I don't like leaving the VPN off for too long because I'll forget to turn it back on sometimes.

Anyhoo! It's Friday and I'm listening to KEXP as usual while preparing for another day of writing work and new music releases. It's been kind of an odd couple of days recently because I've stopped writing on the 750Words site (albeit temporarily) while I put Queen Ophelia aside for a few weeks. This has given me some open time which I've been using to completely focus on Theadia, and to remind myself that it's okay to take a bit of time to, y'know, enjoy some silly things like playing a few rounds of FreeCell or reading a few pages of that wrist-breakingly heavy Paul McCartney Lyrics book. I don't necessarily NEED to be productive every single moment of my waking day, yeah?

Thinking lately about the character interaction in Theadia, actually. One of the things that make this book is the importance and necessity of interpersonal relationships, and I'm having fun exploring what I can do with that. Two of the characters (not the title characters) are Space Force co-pilots and bffs, and I decided it would be fun to create something where that kind of close friendship is not just accepted but expected and promoted in that field. Dani and Lee aren't connected romantically in any way, but their connection is just as deep. They're fine with showing emotion and giving and accepting comfort when needed. Unlike Althea and Claudia, who are two besties and utterly in love in that 'already married' way, Dani and Lee's relationship is such that they've set it up so they can wholly trust and depend on each other when it matters most.

Oh, and to make it official here: In my brain I still pronounce it as thee-YAY-dee-a (as Lee likes to say it), but you can pronounce it however you like. THEE-yah DEE-ah is fine, as is thee-YAH-dee-ah. The point is that this is Thea and Dia's universe, and we're all just drawn into it. :)

I've been posting here mostly on Sundays for years now, mainly to keep this site alive and somewhat active. In the past it was mainly because I had little time for it, balancing it between the Former Day Job, novel writing and the WP blogs, but now that I have time and a lot more headspace for it, I'm thinking maybe I should come here more often. Because why the heck not, yeah? I'm sure I'll have stuff to share!
jon_chaisson: (Default)
We signed up for a single month's worth of Peacock TV so we can watch the Beijing Olympics and the Super Bowl, so that's what our weeknights and weekends have looked like, heh. Once both are over we'll most likely drop the service because we'll most likely never use it otherwise. So yeah, that's what we'll be doing today! [Side note: yes, both of us are agog but not entirely surprised at how many people in the stands are not masked up. Eesh.]

Anyway! Yesterday's excitement was that we went to see The Beatles: Get Back - The Rooftop Concert in IMAX down the road in Daly City, and it was a lot of fun! It was essentially a creative alternate edit of the last hour or so of Episode 3 of TB:GB. It was just as fun watching it the second time, given that the sound was fantastic (of course) and I picked up a few things I missed the first time out. And I got a free movie poster too! Yay!

Let's see, what else has been going on...

I think I'm much closer to the end of Queen Ophelia than I initially thought -- so much so that I think I'm overwriting it a bit at this point. Still...I'm not entirely sure if I'm at the end or not this time out (which is a rarity) so I'm just going to finish off where it feels right and then start in on the next draft revision. And speaking of revision, Theadia is coming along quite nicely! It has a lot of work still to come on it, but the good thing is that I'm really resonating with what I already have, and know what I need to add for the most part. I really can't get over the fact that working on this project feels so very similar to working on the Bridgetown Trilogy. I totally didn't mean for it to happen that way, but I'm not going to complain! I'm just going to enjoy it while it lasts and run with it!

Hope everyone has a lovely week!

Yes, we are having ant problems in our apartment lately. Thankfully, however, the problem is confined to our main bathroom. This tells me two things: one, they are coming up through the pipes, and two, it's not either of us keeping bits of food or puddles of water all over the place. [And three, I'm really curious as to how bad it is for the apartment downstairs. Yeah, the noisy one we've had to yell at a few times over the years.] Said bathroom now has 9,482 ant baits kicking around as well as a small lingering cloud of the particularly ant-heavy spots where I sprayed. If that doesn't work I will be absolutely shocked. I am thankful, however, that they are nowhere near our kitchen this time out.

Meanwhile, not much else to report this weekend. A and I (and a few friends, including @queenoftheskies ) are taking part in MiniNaNo, which A came up with recently. It's essentially just like NaNo but lower stakes and in February (because people are just too dang busy in November). It's keeping me on my toes, that's for sure! I'm focusing mainly on finishing Queen Ophelia and pushing through the initial rewrite/revision of Theadia -- basically doing what I've been working on all this time -- but this is making it a bit more fun!

Hope everyone has a lovely week ahead!

I've been wavering on the WordPress blogs lately. I still want to write them, but I've been a bit lacking in ideas lately. In the past, I'd have pushed through and eventually come up with something, but that can be really exhausting and time-consuming. And because of that, I've been leaning more towards just doing a fly-by or just skipping it entirely for a week or two. I don't feel too guilty about it because quite a few of the webcomic artists I follow have been doing the same as of late. Between creative work and real life stuff, especially this time of year, it's kind of par for the course to take a month or so of a hiatus to recharge, refuel, and catch up.

I've also been focusing almost all my creative juices on finishing Queen Ophelia and the Theadia rewrite. I'm getting really good vibes from both of them, which makes me very happy. I'm hoping that once they're done and cleaned up and ready to go, they'll be the best work I've done so far.

Which, by the way...whatever happened to Diwa & Kaffi? Good question. I think I need to revisit it. Not because I'm not happy with it -- I certainly am -- but I've been away from it long enough that I think giving it another once-over might help me decide what to do with it. I'm definitely going to sell it as a Young Adult/New Adult (NA = juniors/seniors/college kids) so if it needs just that little bit more work, then I'll know what to do.

Meanwhile...another wave of job searching coming through again. And yes, I have even looked into local grocery stores. Whatever works and gets extra money in our accounts, yeah?
jon_chaisson: (Default)
Well! I managed to get through the entire week of on-call jury duty without getting called! I mean, if I'd had to go in, I'd have done it, but better that I'm not put in a large room full of strangers that may or may not be vaccinated, yeah?

Meanwhile, we spent our Saturday walking Crissy Field from the main parking lot all the way to Golden Gate Bridge and back. This time we went into Fort Point -- the old fort right underneath the bridge, and where Kim Novak jumps into the bay in Vertigo, natch -  and checked out the historical things they had on display there. Pretty neat stuff, and I'm actually kind of surprised we've never gone here before! That was about four and a half miles of walking there...which we did again today, heading to one of our favorite coffee joints near Golden Gate Park (Rise & Grind) and walked back through the park. So yeah, all the exercise done this weekend!

So the other week I started with the Theadia rewrite, and it's slow going but it's going in the right direction, and I'm sure it'll get better once I adjust to the work speed. A lot of it is spot-cleaning so far -- rewriting the scene a bit so it's truer to the characters -- but there's also a lot of finally fixing the "will fix it later" bits, such as assigning new names for characters and getting titles and places straightened out. It's been kind of fun so far, and I'm looking forward to what else I can do to make this story even better!

Queen Ophelia is coming along as well...I'm writing the climactic scene now, the final showdown between the major characters. As expected, this showdown is completely different than what I'd planned in the original outline, but I'm totally fine with that, because this particular version makes so much more sense in the context of the story as a whole. If I plan this out correctly, I should probably be able to finish it by mid-February and start in on the rewrite of this as well, so we shall see!

In the meantime...hope everyone has a good week!

It's MLK Day tomorrow so we have another three-day weekend coming to us (or as A says "another mini-vacation") so as with last time, we're spending the days outside and enjoying ourselves. Yesterday we went to the SF Zoo and had a fun time seeing all the critters! Although every single cat was zonked out, and the bears were most likely in winter torpor and snoozing away inside. Can't say I blame them, though. [Side note, the zoo was also full to the brim with kidlets and I was reminded just how exhausting they can be, especially the boys that have obviously never once been told 'can you just calm down and not bounce off strangers for fifteen seconds?' in their lives to date.]

Today's adventure was a walk up to the farmer's market at the other end of Clement, where we stocked up on veg before having a tasty lunch at the Richmond Republic. Noted, the Altamont Nutty Operator stout was super tasty and actually kind of potent for a 5% beer (we both had two). The rest of the day is the usual boring Sunday stuff like laundry, running the various PC cleaner programs and updating the blogs. And tomorrow as planned, we'll be heading to the botanical garden in GGP as the magnolias have started to bloom!

In other news, I've been reading some fun romantic comedy books on A's suggestion -- I'd decided last year that I want to try my hand at that genre this year -- and lo and behold, I came up with a nifty idea whilst lying in bed this morning! A and I talked about some of the plot points on our walk home today and it's sounding like it would be a really fun project, so perhaps this might be something I'll work on next. I suppose my elevator pitch would be "music nerd meet-cute" (slight bit of self-insertion there, I admit). Very curious to see where this leads.

Meanwhile, I supposedly have jury duty this week, although Tuesday's is already saying "nothing today, call back again". Ah well.

Hope everyone has a lovely week!
jon_chaisson: (Default)
It's been a relaxing week here, spending the time focusing writing catch-up and driving A up to Corte Madera on Friday for her booster shot, and seeing her parents for a quick lunch and shopping. (We spent yesterday just kicking around as A was tired and sore from the shot and I had a few things I wanted to finish up. And Sunday has pretty much become household errand day around these parts.)

I have been thinking of what my next writing project (or projects?) may be, but at the moment I'm still keeping that open for now, so I can continue to focus on Queen Ophelia and Theadia. Still, it's always a good thing to let my mind wander a bit for that sort of thing. I do have a few very vague ideas but I'd really need to spend an afternoon or two to work them out into a workable outline to see if they're worth expanding on. I'll most likely do that in the next few weeks or so.

And I restarted my daily stretches and exercises again! Those didn't quite fall by the wayside so much as I was just busy and considered our few-days-a-week neighborhood walk as part of that. I figure now is a perfect time to start them up again, considering a) I'm not currently ailing with some weird back twinge of dubious origin, and b) I have the time and the mindset to do so. (I should probably keep a better watch on my diet as well, to be honest. I've been snacking and drinking too much soda lately.)

Not much planned for the week other than writing, job searches, and doing a double donation drop-off at Goodwill and the SF Public Library. Yay for clearing up Spare Oom floor! We have a goodly amount of things to get rid of and I'll be happy when I'm not climbing over it anymore.

Oh, and I'm on jury duty the week of the 18th. Fun! This will of course depend on whether they'll actually have it or delay it due to Covid reasons, but I don't even know which court house I need to go to! I'm hoping it's the one near City Hall, because the one in SoMa is a HUGE pain in the butt to get to and all its nearby parking lots aren't in the safest of areas. Either way, I'll need to do one of those call-ups the night before to know for sure.

Hope everyone has a lovely week!

I'm thinking of shaking things up this year. Push myself beyond my comfort levels. What does that mean? A lot of different things, I guess? I'm still using my daily writing schedule and whiteboard to keep me productive, sure, but I'm not talking about the processes here. More like heading in directions I should have headed ages ago. Personal-level stuff. Not being afraid anymore. Not 'waiting for the right moment' anymore. That sort of thing.

Curious to see where this goes. And what will come of it.

jon_chaisson: (Default)
It's been a strange couple of weeks here in the Bay Area, what with the ongoing weather and constant chill. We've definitely needed the rain, but MAN is it cold! It's still hovering in the mid-40s to low 50s with a constant wind or breeze, so everything just feels damp and chilly. Not to mention that we'll get downpours in the middle of the night that'll be hard but only last about ten minutes, waking us both up. I read that it might actually warm up and the sun might come out midweek, but given our local weather, we'll only know for sure when it comes.

It's also been a couple of weeks of cleaning in Spare Oom as well. I'd gotten rid of a bunch of boxes we didn't need (or ones that were in poor shape) and I also got rid of a bunch of smaller ones today. That in itself was amusing because a few times I opened up these small boxes to find smaller boxes within that I also had to break down! A and I also did a book purge earlier this afternoon, finally getting rid of some titles that we've had kicking around on the shelf for ages that we weren't going to read (or reread). I'll be dropping those off at the library donation spot in a few weeks. And once we hit January, I'll put away the tree and all the Christmas decorations. And maybe I'll finally have some more room on the floor again!

Normally I'd do some kind of personal Year End Review type of entry here, but a) I'm kind of already doing it at my Welcome to Bridgetown blog and b) 2021 has kind of been a transitional year for me. It wasn't so much a year of finishing projects or reaching goals as it was a year of continuing them. A lot of closet cleaning, cobweb clearing, bad habit dropping, finding clarity, and that sort of thing. Just a lot of things I needed to do or get over with so I could move on. That said, I do have good plans for 2022 that I hope I can work to completion!

Here's to hoping everyone has a great new year!
jon_chaisson: (Default)
It's been hovering around the 40s and low 50s here in San Francisco the last several days, so we've broken out the long sleeves, turned on the heaters, thrown on the sweaters and hunkered down in an attempt to stay warm. As I've said to A, this is the good thing about still wearing masks: our faces stay warm too! Our electricity bill is of course going up in response, but that happens every year, tbh, so we're used to it. Right now we're both sweatered up and drinking Irish coffees while we do our weekend chores, and we went for a short walk up to Fancy Grocery Store so we don't feel too guilty about hiding inside for the rest of the day. Heh.

So, how have we been handling Pandemic IV: Omicron Blues or whatever number it is now? As well as we can, really. Thankfully we live in a neighborhood where most of its inhabitants are like "yeah, we're wearing masks, it is what it is, I got my booster last Thursday, how's your auntie doing". And thankfully we have family and friends and neighbors who are vaxxed and boostered and sticking it out through the next unneeded sequel. Our plan to go see the new Matrix movie next Saturday has been cancelled due to the both of us not really trusting being in unmonitored crowds. We'll live, and I'm sure it'll be sticking around over the holiday and playing more locally somewhere at some point. But yeah, it is what it is. I personally don't find being homebound as frustrating as others might find it, but then again I'm someone who's equally happy kicking it at home as I am out in public, and so is A. We have our books and music and streaming platforms to keep us entertained and neighborhood shops to keep us fed. I know we're lucky in that respect.

So what else...? Anything else to yammer on about for the next-to-last Sunday of the year? Not that I can think of. I'm keeping busy with my writing. Feeling a bit stuck on both projects, but I'm powering through regardless. I'm making my end-of-year mixtape and thinking about my best-of-year lists. Got a few personal things I've been thinking a lot about, but other than that, it's been a quiet and uneventful end of year.

Here's to hoping 2022 is a bit more uplifting and forward-moving, yeah?

jon_chaisson: (Default)
December's almost halfway done already, what's with that? Well, part of it is doing all the holiday/end of year/personal/health-related stuff lately. This past Monday I had my COVID booster shot...and though I didn't get the Everything Aches thing this time, it did make me feel tired for about a day, so I spent the first part of the week doing not all that much except prepping Christmas boxes for mailing later in the week. Those are all good to go and mailed out, and to sign off on that little project I thinned out our empty box collection (it was getting a bit too big so I got rid of the older/rattier ones) this afternoon.

Tomorrow we'll be going to see the Nutcracker ballet at the Opera House! We've pretty much gone to it every single year we've been here (and watched it online when SFBallet had streamed an older production last year due to the pandemic), and it's always a fun time. They've always put on a great production! Oh, and we'll be going to a different Nutcracker thing on the 19th at the Symphony, which should be interesting! What else...spending time at the DMV on Wednesday to sign up for the RealID thingummywhoozits, and on Christmas we'll be seeing the new Matrix movie! Heh.

So yeah, busy December so far! Not complaining though, it's also been productive with the writing and other things too!

Hope everyone has a good week!
jon_chaisson: (Default)
Long holiday weekends always mess with my head. For the last couple of days I've been thinking it's Sunday to the point that today felt like an extra Sunday tacked on at the end. Not complaining, though...we had an enjoyable Thanksgiving at home (and we still have leftovers as of this moment) with an afternoon visit up to Petaluma to visit A's parents. We did a lot of walking, a good amount of shopping (for us and for Christmas presents) and errands got done as well. We also started watching The Beatles: Get Back (no surprise there) and I will of course be blogging about it probably later in the week (no surprise there either).

I am of course feeling itchy to get back to work on my writing. I've done little except do a recent re-read of Theadia (probably the last one for a bit, until I get closer to finishing this draft) and will be doing a re-read of Queen Ophelia after that, but I'm REALLY looking forward to churning out new words again!

We're hoping to get our Christmas stuff mailed out soon so we can avoid the delays that will most likely happen, and send them Priority so they'll (hopefully) have a little more attention paid to them. It's probably going to be a bit smaller of a package this time out, but that's kind of expected. We didn't want large packages to be sitting in delivery limbo for weeks. Anyhoo! I think we've got everything on our shopping lists, we're just waiting for one or two items to complete it all.

Other than that, not too much to report! Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend!

jon_chaisson: (Default)
We did ALL THE WALKING this weekend! Okay, we didn't do a marathon, but we did a good couple of miles each day! Yesterday we walked up to 8th Ave to one of our favorite coffee shops (Rise & Grind, which is right across the street from the 8th Street gate of Golden Gate Park) and then all the way to Arguello and back, stopping for lunch burgers on the way back home. And then today we took the bus up to 6th Ave so we could have brunch at a recent find (Tastebuds, on the corner of 5th and Balboa). And OOOH YESS that was a fine choice of bruncheries! I got a chorizo-chili and scrambled egg plate called the Hangover Helper and it was sooooo tasty! We made our way back via walking on California (and resisted temptation to have yet more coffee), and I've been up and down ever since doing some housecleaning and laundry. I'm also writing multiple blog entries for the week as it's going to be a busy holiday weekend. It's mid-afternoon and it feels like I've done ALL THE THINGS.

Not much else to report...still writing, still revising, still rereading!

Hope everyone has a lovely holiday!

So what's been going on this week?

We've already started buying our Christmas presents over the last week or so, mainly because of postal shenanigans, and that's fine. In fact, this is probably for the best because I usually buy things much later on in the season. We figure we'll get everything all boxed up for everyone and mail it out early just to avoid all the delay nonsense. Works for me! Although I do need to zip to a few stores later midweek to pick up a few things we missed (and to restock our wrapping paper as well). I figure I'll do that the same time I do the food shopping. And we've been doing holiday food prep early as well, considering that allegedly there's a turkey shortage. We buy the breast cuts now instead of whole birds, considering it's a) a lot less time, space and fuss, and b) it's only the two of us. And A has been stashing away cranberries for sometime now so we will definitely have enough for sauce!

Oh! And I've been told by A that our local YMCA will be reopening soon! Woo! I mean, we've been making up for it by going on neighborhood walks right after she logs off for the night, but it'll be good to return and stop by again. I kind of miss my treadmill walks with my mp3 player on, they were perfect for thinking about my novel projects! Heh. OH! I should also check if the Presidio Y is going to be reopened soon as well, because they happen to have a pool, and I really miss swimming!

Speaking of walking, we did at least two miles' worth of it while mall shopping yesterday, and we did almost as much today doing a run up to Laurel Village then down Clement on the way home. We of course had a tasty brunch at the Richmond Republic. We are now doing stuff around the house (A is cooking and canning, and I am doing laundry) and will kick back and relax this evening.

Anything else...? Not really. Still writing, still working on stuff. Pretty much it for now! :)

Hope everyone has a good week!
