Yes, I set foot in the local YMCA, and got some exercise.

[livejournal.com profile] emmalyon got us both a membership, and aside from the brief stepping in the other day to pick up my badge, this afternoon marks the first time since probably 1987 that I've set foot in a Y and actually did some exercise.

I should probably note that I only know the previous date because that was when I used to have an after-school job at the Athol YMCA as a custodian and would occasionally jump on the exercise bike or something for a short bit. But once I left that job, I never went to any Y or gym or workout room. I relied basically on doing a lot of walking and being too broke to overeat when I lived in Boston, to tell the truth. I just felt I didn't have the time for it then.

So tonight we were just on the treadmill for just under an hour, and damn did that feel good. It's about damn time I did this. My plan at this point is to focus on the treadmill and possibly the bike, and once I'm comfortable with all that perhaps some weights will finally be involved.

But yeah...yet another New Year's Resolution finally coming to fruition, I'm happy and proud to say. Now to work on the other half--cutting down on bad foods!

There's your solution, just buy an overpriced house and take on an immense mortgage. You won't have money for food! :)

Yeah, I did something close to that in Boston (renting an overpriced apartment in Back Bay), once in my life is enough. ;)

Seriously, I'm thinking, do I really need to buy that muffin for brunch, or have that heaping bowl of cereal, or eat out more than I should? We have a ridiculous amount of produce markets in our neighborhood, and we both decided we really should work on eating well rather than snacking. At least for me, anyway.
