[livejournal.com profile] emmalyon and I took a walk in Golden Gate Park today, starting from the de Young Museum and making our way down to Spreckels Lake (roughly about 2.5 miles), and of course, we took our cameras with us.

I've already posted pictures taken at the Rose Garden over at my Tumblr site, but thought I'd add a few here as well. Enjoy!

Detail of a monument for WWI and WWII veterans from San Francisco.

Rainbow Falls, a manmade waterfall. At the top of this hill is a large stone cross which I believe is called Prayer Book Cross. I should post a picture of it at some point, it's quite impressive. The water heads from here down a small babbling brook on the side of JFK Drive down to Lloyd Lake.

The final drop of the brook down to Lloyd Lake. The path around the lake starts here, with the water flowing around stepping stones.

The 'Portal to the Past' monument at Lloyd Lake. This was once someone's front portico on Nob Hill, until the rest of the house came crashing down during the 1906 'conflagration' (yes, that's what the plaque said).

A Muscovy duck at Lloyd Lake. I admit I've never seen one of these before.

Now these mallards, on the other hand...

Turtle on a log, Lloyd Lake. I swear it looks like he's doing yoga...

And one for good measure...

When we left the park near 36th Avenue, we jumped on the 5 Fulton back up to 6th Avenue (pretty much back to where we started!), then jumped on the 44 to go get something to eat on Clement. The bus dropped us off in front of Green Apple Books, which is always a dangerous thing for us, though we were good and avoided its temptations. However, we couldn't pass up taking a picture of this bit of silliness:

So, all told, with the walk in the park plus walking home from where we stopped for lunch (Pizza Orgasmica), we must have walked total at least three and a half miles today. No wonder we're both sleepy!

Thanks! I like how that last mini-waterfall came out...that was me kneeling on the stepping stones with the camera resting on one, and hoping I didn't get myself or the camera wet! :p
