Okay, I'm putting this on LJ for all the world to see, especially for the fact that everyone seems to be making fun of me for this fact: I HAVE NEVER BEEN ON A COMMERCIAL AIRLINE BEFORE. Oh, and let's add to this: I HAVE NEVER GONE OUT OF THE STATES (except to Canada, but only for a few days total) FOR VACATION BEFORE.

The floor is yours, so tease away! :p

[livejournal.com profile] emmalyon and [livejournal.com profile] lynxreign and I are leaving this afternoon to head to Scotland for Worldcon, the big (and probably most important) science fiction conference. Last year's in Boston was a blast so this one promises to be even better. I've been to sf cons before (Readercon and Boskone, both in the Boston area), so I think I'm well-versed in them. Worldcon is sorta like those two only magnified like ten times or so. A lot more participants, a lot more writers and editors and fans. Geekfest? Perhaps. A learning experience? Definitely.

I'll most likely take notes at this con so I'll see if I can post some of them when I get back for y'all to check out.

And I bought me a cheapo digital camera for the trip too! :D

See you in a week, people!

Oh, and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] urnesha for housesitting! BTW, your payment is in your email. ;)

Have fun! Sounds truly exciting! Take many pictures!

And as for not having gone out of the States before, nor having ridden on an airplane, I know others who may fall in your category. It happens. But, you are not going to be that person for much longer, either.

It's about time! :)

I'm downloading it now! Thanks bunches!

And don't worry, if it wasn't for college I would be in the same situation.

Have loads of fun!

I can't play it. The Musicmatch license requires that I use Musicmatch to play it as well as log in to a Musicmatch account.

Thanks for trying though!

I was 14 before I flew, and only flew a couple of times before I met Amy. Growing up I went to Canada many many times, I was only 30-45 minutes from the border, but never had a passport until a couple of years ago when we went to Europe. I had only been along the East Coast until my honeymoon when we went to Maui.

Things to consider:

Do you get motion sick on those Motion Odessy Rides? If so, you will probably get sick on the plane and want to take motion sickness pills in advance and for such a long flight you may need to take another dose in the air.

If you don't think you will get motion sick, still make sure you have an airsickness bag in the pouch in front of you just in case.

Be prepared to be uncomfortable from sitting for so long. Get up and stretch your legs if/when you get the chance as often as needed.

Airplane bathrooms are a small step above a port-a-potty.

Your carry-on may be stuck under the seat in front of you rather than in the overhead compartment if enough people get on ahead of you. The smaller your carry-on, the more space you will have for your feet.

Things not to do if you want to actually get there:

Pack a copy of Gigli in your carry-on and tell the security screeners that you are taking a real bomb with you.

I don't get sick on most rides. Just the ones that go in a circle like the Tilt-a-Whirl. I grew up reading in the car, so it shouldn't be that much of a problem, as long as the pilot doesn't think he's actually flying the Vomit Comet. ;)

"as long as the pilot doesn't think he's actually flying the Vomit Comet."

But think of the thrill ride if he does. :)
