[Pix] Our Neighborhood Walk Today
Feb. 12th, 2011 05:14 pmSo we took the 29 bus up to...

Golden Gate Bridge!
We didn't go all the way across...we only went about half the span, but we certainly took some nice pictures along the way...

No idea this was right under the southern base of the bridge. It's not so much a cafe as a tiny convenience/gift store where you can get snacks, tee-shirts, and whatnot.

Designer/chief engineer Joseph Strauss and his bridge.

A view of Crissy Field, the Marina, and downtown SF from the bridge. Off to the left you can see Yerba Buena Island and the Bay Bridge as well.

A closer shot of the south tower.

My favorite shot from today--looking at the south tower, just north of it with the sun behind.
But that's not all...

Apparently the Deathly Hallows can be found on the GGB as well! :)
And if that wasn't enough, we decided to take the Coastal Trail from the Bridge down to Baker Beach (it states that it's just about a mile, but it seems longer). Many more interesting things along that route, including a handful of former artillery batteries along the coastline and some wonderful views of the Bridge.

For those curious, here's what the bridge looks like from underneath. ;)

A view from the Coastal Trail, looking down at Marshall and Baker Beaches, and Land's End in the background. That stretch where apartment buildings and houses reach close to the water is the small (yet chic) Seacliff neighborhood, where all the Swells live. Our area of the Richmond District is just behind it, a bit inland.

Yet ANOTHER shot of the Bridge, this time with a view of the Marin Headlands. Similar to the view I have from outside Spare Oom, but this one has water!

Battery Boutelle. Most of the batteries here were simple and utilitarian, but this one had some interesting angles to it, including the wooden doors.

Battery Godfrey. Many of them had these neat little porticos that I assume were where the main offices would have been.

Yet ANOTHER shot of the Bridge, this time from Baker Beach. Specifically, this was while standing atop Battery Chamberlin.
And finally...

Two crows perched on top of the fence in front of Battery Chamberlin, the Marin Headlands in the background. Our neighborhood has an oddly large amount of crows, so I'm convinced they're haunting and taunting me at this point.
So now? I'm going to kick back and relax, because I am DEAD TIRED after all that!

Date: 2011-02-13 06:59 pm (UTC)Speaking of going over the bridge, I saw at least three cars going by that had people sticking out of random windows taking pictures. Including one girl halfway out the passenger side window.
