You know, I used to like the Strokes, until I noticed:
--there's no bass in Julian Casablanca's vocals. It's all treble.
--Dudes, the 70s NYC junkie look went out in the mid-70s.
--
That said, however...DJ Freelance Hellraiser did a brilliant job back in '02 mixing their also half-assed "Hard to Explain" with Christina Aguilera's "Genie in a Bottle" for one of the best mashups EVER.

Date: 2010-07-05 03:24 am (UTC)I won't argue with any of your assertions. They have merit. The Strokes are not an innovative band. Like at all. They are very basic. Instead, I put it to you that their very "basicness" is their very appeal.
I like The Strokes when I want dirty, cheap, raw, funny, hip garage-band style rock. It's a thing I like. It's like wanting your mom's meatloaf. You know it isn't the best thing you've ever eating, but somehow it's classic, somehow it's exactly what you want.
This is generally how I judge music, to be honest. The concept may not translate to another set of ears.
