Yesterday Emm and I took the bus to 48th Avenue to Sutro Heights Park to take in the view. It looks out over Cliff House and Ocean Beach and was quite nice yesterday for picture taking...

For starters, one of two stone lions at the entry of the park, one of the few stone statues left from back when this was Mayor Sutro's palatial estate...

Looking down from the driveway, a view of the ocean, Cliff House (with the Camera Obscura next to it) and Seal Rock just behind. Did you know those rocks actually have names?

Part of the driveway. Interesting how the ocean wind has shaped the trees here.

Ocean Beach...definitely low tide!

Another picture, this one showing more of the land. This one's a bit interesting for a few reasons...1) That little triangle of scrub/sand dune was kept there on purpose to show what most of the western half of SF (or at least most of my neighborhood) looked like at one point. 2)Way back in the day and up until the early 70s those two blocks of condos used to be where Playland was. 3) That short building with the wide white roof is our local Safeway. 4)That strip of trees--including a windmill--is the western end of Golden Gate Park. 5)A few good miles down Great Highway (that's the name of that oceanside road) is where the Zoo is. And 6) This is actually the fastest route to get to the malls down in Daly City for us now, at least for us! :p

So! After that, we skipped across the street and started walking the Land's End Trail back. It's actually quite an easy trail, relatively flat except for a few stretches (and one detour took us up quite a number of steps). And oh so many views of the Golden Gate Bridge!

Like this one:

Small Aside: Is it sad that the picture on the "Hazardous Cliffs" sign at the bottom there instantly reminded me of this bit of flash silliness?

Or this one, which I like because you can't tell from this picture that we were actually in the city:

Or here, at the eastern end of the trail, where you can see both Baker and China Beaches (the GGB is out of shot just to the left):

And after a brief walk through the Lobos Creek Dunes section of the Presidio (right near the path we walked on a few weeks previous), we came up on 15th Avenue and made our way back in a roundabout way, stopping for sushi on Geary, and then hanging out the rest of the day.
