[Writing] Trilogy Influences: Music
Jan. 15th, 2010 08:25 pmA bit of music to show what inspired me (or at least what I listened to) during the writing of the trilogy. Enjoy!
Curve, 'Fait Accompli' from Doppelganger. Partially inspired the idea of Vigil, featured in the opening scene of The Phoenix Effect (and in effect A Division of Souls).
Poe, 'Hello' (band version) from the single. Inspiration for The Phoenix Effect, when the original idea had AIs rather than alien life, not to mention a bit of Johnny Mnemonic influence as well.
Pulusha, 'Isolation Pt 1' from the single. Heard this on a compilation called Invocation, which came out during the writing of TPE, about the time I was still reading/following the New Age stuff. Inspired a vivid (and as yet unused) idea of spirit journeys, something I hint at near the end of The Process of Belief.
Global Communication, 'Epsilon Phase' from Pentamerous Metamorphosis. Another ambient album that got quite a lot of play.
Dishwalla, 'Until I Wake Up' from And You Think You Know What Life's About. Definitely an album that got a lot of Belfry listens. My favorite track from it.
Supreme Beings of Leisure, 'Strangelove Addiction' from Supreme Beings of Leisure. Poe pops this into his cd player when he's driving up I-91 to the Crest. Or something like that. :)
Lamb, 'Gorecki' from Lamb. Where Christine got her last name, and it also handily explains some of the central themes of this trilogy.
Failure, 'Daylight' from Fantastic Planet. Ending Theme. Slow pull-back of camera to eventually show a crowded skyline at sunset, and cutting hard to black just as the guitars and drums kick in. Credits roll. Okay, so what I wrote doesn't exactly fit, but it still makes a good ending theme, no? ;)
