But first...

...once again proving that we walk in on all sorts of things in our neighborhood now and again... ;)

Today we took the 39 bus up to Coit Tower/Telegraph Hill to take some pictures and finally make our way down the Filbert Steps. For starters, we took a few pictures of other famous things from this hill, including:

Yeah, that famous street...

...and just to the right of it and off a ways, that famous bridge. :p

Looking south...I LOVE how this one came out.

The Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street, with part of the Bay Bridge in the background. It has a farmer's market on Saturdays that we sometimes go to.

And now...to the steps!

Looking down from the top of the Filbert Steps. Yes, this is considered part of Filbert Street. Yes, there are apartments and houses down this way that one can only get to via these steps. No, I have no clue where they park, if at all. ;)

About a third of the way down, Montgomery Street cuts in...

Trivia Note: the white apartment building on the right was where parts of Bogey's film Dark Passage was filmed. The current owner has a cardboard Bogey standee in the window. :p

Briefly looking back up...

...a view of some of the apartments and houses up there, as well as Coit Tower.

The first of two pedestrian streets up there. So yes, there are in fact fire hydrants on the hill!

Here's the second, Napier Lane.

Down near the bottom...that's Sansome Street in the foreground and Battery Street a little further on. The little park in between is Levi Strauss Plaza. Yes, their corporate offices! :)

In the background in the bay is Yerba Buena Island and the Bay Bridge leading up to it. FYI, the part of the Bay Bridge they're currently working on this weekend is on the opposite side of the island. :)
Oh--and yeah, down at the bottom of the hill is where I took that bike race picture. They were riding a sort-of-oval course using Battery, Sansome, and a few side streets.

And yes, Telegraph Hill does in fact drop off rather abruptly at this point. Probably about three stories or so!

That of course, didn't keep people from building houses right up to the edge, though...

This is looking up at where I was standing for the previous picture.

So yes, that was our little jaunt/exercise/excitement for the day. :)
