This year was a tough one to find videos for, strangely enough. There were a LOT of songs I really liked that just had no video made for them, at least none I could find on YouTube...or found, but couldn't embed (damn you Universal X( ). Still, away we go!

Come 2001, I was comfortable with the new job at Yankee and working on the first book in the Eden Cycle trilogy. I was also catching up with a lot of music by listening to college radio again--more to the point, listening to WAMH out of Amherst College, the same station I'd listened to ages ago. This was added by my constant reading music magazines (in particular, CMJ and ICE) for suggestions. Added to the fact that my then-occasional trips to the comic book store at Hampshire Mall became weekly--which led to weekly trips to Newbury Comics. Wednesdays were the day for spending.

Here's a small sample of some great songs heard during the first quarter that I enjoyed while driving, listening, and writing...

Crooked Fingers, "The Rotting Strip" (original from Bring on the Snakes, rel. 2/20/01

Arab Strap, "The Love Detective" from The Red Thread, rel. 2/26/01

Snow Patrol, "Ask Me How I Am" from When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up, rel. 3/5/01

(Yes, I was into them before they got huge with Eyes Open. ;) )

Our Lady Peace, "Right Behind You (Mafia)" from Spiritual Machines, rel. 3/13/01

(This album is very underrated...no one seems to remember it!)

2ND QUARTER
By this time things were going good for me...bills were getting paid off, I was kicking butt with my writing, and I was making a lot of good friends at my new job. Sure, I was still spending a lot more money than I should have on comics and cds, but you know what? I could get away with it now. I also have to add that by this time my job had moved to the new warehouse a few miles up the road, where we had a LOT more room and a better flow. The job may have been backbreaking at times, but it was still good at this point.

Stereophonics, "Mr. Writer" from Just Enough Education to Perform, rel. 4/17/01

Tool, "Schism" from Lateralus, rel. 5/15/01

Stabbing Westward, "So Far Away" from Stabbing Westward, rel. 5/22/01

Muse, "New Born" from Origin of Symmetry, rel. 6/17/01

THIRD QUARTER

More of the same, really...writing, music. But unlike 2000, it felt as though alt.rock seemed to grab its footing again with a stronger, fuller sound.

Tricky, "Evolution Revolution Love" from Blowback, rel. 7/2/01

L'Arc~en~Ciel, "Spirit Dreams Inside" from the Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within OST, rel. 7/3/01

(This song restarted my obsession with anime as well as j-pop and j-rock. ;) )

Ivy, "Edge of the Ocean", from Long Distance, rel. 7/10/01

4TH QUARTER...
...also known as HELL for anyone working in a warehouse or retail. So yeah...very busy, very painful at times, and quite a lot of stuff going on. Much more with the writing, the comics, and the music. And of course a major historical event...

They Might Be Giants, "Man It's So Loud In Here", originally on Mink Car, rel. 9/11/01

P.O.D., "Alive", from Satellite, rel. 9/11/01

Ian Brown, "F.E.A.R.", originally from Music of the Spheres, rel. 10/1/01

Death Cab for Cutie, "A Movie Script Ending" from The Photo Album, rel. 10/9/01

All in all, a transitional but great year for music.

Coming soon...2002--the year in which I start buying WAY too many cds!

Also coming soon...I'll most likely make a list of best songs/albums for this decade as well, before the year's out. ;)
