[Writing] When I Really Started Writing

Heh. My sister just sent me this today...a picture dated 10/12/73, which would have made me 2 1/2 years old. My dad noted on the reverse that I'd already started typing names and words. I know I caught the writing bug pretty early, but now I have proof! :p

Seeing you at that typewriter reminded me of my 9th Grade year in Jr. High School. I was one of 3 boys in the typing class. I never got beyond around 35 words per minute, but I have used that skill so often over the years and I never thought it would be something I would use in my every day life like I do.

I mean, back in '79 who knew about computers being everywhere?

Heh, I started working in the computer industry in '79. Well, technically, interviewed in '79 and started the job right after new year 1980. We had this great idea called the minicomputer. We used to really wow the new recruits by logging on to a computer in London over our internal corporate network and getting the real-time weather. Nobody had seen anything like it *g*
