Oh well

Emm and I are getting rid of a few dvds here and there and watching some just to see if they're worth keeping, and with Emm still out on business, I finally got around to watching Donnie Darko.

Or should I say, tried to watch it. I think I got about half an hour in and could not make myself watch any more.

Why is this? Not because the plot is so convoluted it could qualify as Gordian, that doesn't bother me. In fact, I like watching movies like that, if they're done well.

It's because everyone in the movie is F***ING ANNOYING, that's why. Everyone is either uncaring, impersonal, lacks any sort of emotion, or is on drugs. Sure, it takes place in the late 80s and it's supposed to evoke the Bret Easton Ellis-style suburban ennui thing, but it's been done too many times already. Added to the fact that almost every scene has an "ooh, look what I can do with a camera!" shot, be it slo-mo or a weird angle.

I think this is the major reason I can't stand most of the so-called "indie" films nowadays. I can't like a movie where the story is buried and I don't give a shit about the characters.

Ah well. Guess that one's going in the Amoeba bin. ;)

Ouch scathing review xD..well that's alright, some movies aren't for everybody. Have you seen Mysterious Skin? I think you'll like it plus it has all shoegazeee (With a original soundtrack done by Robin Guthrie ;D)
