Weekend Update Has a New Set of Wheels
Nov. 4th, 2017 08:11 amNormally I get twitchy if I lose my writing time for some unexpected event. I protect my writing time like it's my only child, to be honest, because I don't have that big a window for it.
But hey, I'll give last night a pass. Because we headed to a dealership downtown after work to look at a new car...and ended up trading ours in for one! A. had been looking at a Honda Fit for the last couple of months, checking them out online, looking up specs, and so on. [Side note: as soon as she latched on to that model, we started seeing a lot of them around the city. Which is good, because I got to see them up close and check them out for myself.] She cast a few lines out to local Honda dealers and eventually we got a great deal from the place we've taken our car for years.
The only hiccup, as it happened, was an unexpected accident with the car that we had just agreed to buy not five minutes earlier. We'd made an initial agreement with the rep and he said we could drive our new one right off the lot (woo!), all we needed to do is get our stuff out of our old car. So while A and I are doing so, one of the dealership dudes went to get the new car. We were just about finished getting our stuff when we heard a skrooooont right outside. Which is never a good sound to hear. I know that sound. It's the sound of two cars rubbing together.
And when I looked, I saw that the very car that we'd just agreed to had been sideswiped by someone who had been in a breakdown lane and pulled out (without looking) just as our new car was cutting in front of him to enter the dealership room. No significant damage per se, but there was a nice big white scratch on the rear right side.
*facepalm* I tell you though, the timing was so perfect both A and I actually started laughing! The salesman heard about the whole thing and he was NOT happy, and immediately went into triage mode and said 'Go sit in the lounge. We have another one, same exact thing. Give me time to get everything switched over and we'll be good." And lo, a half hour or so later, all was good. We were done, papers signed, keys handed over, and we were back home at 8:30. With a new car in our parking spot. :)

So now that the weekend is here, hopefully I can get caught up on the writing! :p
