I'm finding it kind of strange that I'm letting some of my magazine subscriptions lapse. I mean, this is most of the writing magazines and all of the music magazines. Good gravy, why am I getting rid of two things I have a vested interest in? And these are magazines I've subscribed to for years, some since the early 90s.

Well, to be honest, I came to the conclusion: if I rarely read the issues that come to me, or if I do and I spend nearly all of the time just skimming the pages and maybe reading only 5% of it, then maybe it's time to let it go. I did the same some time ago with the science fiction magazines...I'd buy them and then never read them. These magazines will sit around Spare Oom for 3 or 4 months (during which time I'd try to convince myself I'll get to them soon enough) and eventually end up in the recycling bin after a marathon weekend skimming.

And those are the writing magazines. I've become rather choosy with the music magazines I pick up, mainly because, after all these years, there's still that faint whiff of indie self-importance that rubs me the wrong way. You know what I mean...and it kind of bores me now. Sure, there are other music magazines out there that are much better, but again -- I'm pretty sure they'd be sitting around gathering dust until I finally read them three months later.

So yeah...doing some culling there.

I guess this is all a part of what I've been calling my 'twitchiness' lately. I get this feeling every couple of years...an urge to change things up. Sometimes it's out of boredom, sometimes it's from clarity, sometimes it's a need to get my shit together. I've been thinking about this a lot lately, especially since I'm on the back end of a years-long writing project. I've been doing a lot of thinking about future projects, both writing-related and otherwise. Once the project is done, I'll have a hell of a lot more time to work with, so this is a perfect time for me to at least get some preplanning done.

Things are looking up. :)
