Lazy Calm

I've been listening to Cocteau Twins all afternoon. I just had this urge to listen to them the last few days, and thought that an afternoon of relaxing, ambient proto-post-rock would do the trick. And it did! Not only am I feeling a bit more centered, but I actually got quite a bit done today as well, both writingwise and at work. Not bad at all.

It got me thinking about October starting tomorrow, actually. Time for Inktober and a new month of whiteboard schedule writing. It also got me thinking about how I approached my creative outlets in the past. I'm talking about 80s past, when I first started listening to CT. Sure, I write a hell of a lot better now than I did then, and my writing habits are better as well, but I think I kind of lost track quite some time ago as to what really intrigues me inspiration-wise.

To put a point to it, I want to try something again--writing just for the sake of writing, for the enjoyment of it, for the adventure of it, and putting less stress on trying to create something commercial. It's kind of tough to explain what I mean without sounding like I want to reinvent the wheel or make myself a special snowflake of the writing world, far from it. More that I'd like to try putting more emphasis in enjoying the craft on a deeper personal and emotional level. I used to write that way, but I put it aside for various reasons. But I think now is a good time to revisit that.

Something to think about this coming month.
