Meanwhile, in San Francisco...
May. 7th, 2008 08:18 amWork continues apace at the Bank here...today is a surprisingly quiet day *knocks on wood* despite an ongoing website problem, but nobody seems to be complaining about it today, so I'm not worried. And I have to count my blessings, because recently I've been running into a lot of people I used to work with on the 5th floor who are NOT happy with their jobs. Apparently the Powers That Be are trying to change things again, this time scheduling. Not a pretty sight. I now have about a dozen former coworkers who ask me on a normal basis when there'll be an opening up here on the 18th floor. I'm still happy I moved up here, so that's a plus.
In other news,
emmalyon is on another business trip this week, so this of course means I get to live in squalor and eat bad food and stay up way too late for a few days I'm left to my own devices, and I'm going to try to be good. Can't promise anything, but I can try. :p
Still a bit behind on the writing again, but I'm getting better. Managed to get a few more scenes done for the new story, and sometime this week I'll be picking up LLB again for another go-over. And also, I want to sit down and hammer out a travel article start-to-finish in the next day or so as well, just to get it out of my system and have something concrete to work with and possibly sell.
Speaking of which, I think my downfall has been, once again, my music collection. I've been goofing off with it too much lately, and that has GOT to stop. The problem is that it's a hobby of mine to collect music and it's gotten the best of me on more than one occasion. Not that I'm going to quit it cold turkey for awhile...more like I should back away from it for a bit.
And speaking of writing and music, I'm still trying to match the music with the characters in the new project. So far, I figured that Faye = Concrete Blonde's first album, and Tim = The Cure's Disintegration. Haven't quite figured out Kati yet, though. And before you ask, yes, this is a throwback to my "music video treatment" style of writing, in which the mood of a song or album corresponds with a specific character or scene. It's a good way to keep tabs on how each character should act in the context of the story for me. And the theme song for the book is still "Can't Find My Way Home" (originally by Blind Faith, but preferrably the Electronic version, although I can hear the Swans version being played as a closing theme near the end of the book), as many of the themes in the book deal with either trying to get home or being away from it. Can you tell I'm REALLY enjoying this story? :p
Okay, enough for now...I should probably get some work done today... :p
