Well, looking on the KRON 4 website, I can see that San Francisco lived up to its reputation as being an excessively liberal city. Because not only did the Republicans lose, they got pantsed. Even though the Governator won, here in SF he only got over 47000 votes, where Angelides got nearly 104000. And pretty much every single person running for office that won is a Democrat.

And our Nancy Pelosi didn't only win, she's the first woman Speaker of the Frikkin' House now. She won easily with 101002 votes, the closest contender only getting 13000. WAY TO GO NANCY! :)

I'm quite happy to report that a lot of the good Propositions did pass, such as more funding for schools and more funding for the maintenance and expansion of transportation. And my favorite Prop J passed 91k to 62k. The controversial Prop 85 (waiting period and parental notification before termination of minor's pregnancy) passed easily. A few Propositions didn't pass as I'd hoped, such as Prop 86 (tax on cigarettes) (hey, I know people who are happy they quit smoking because they couldn't afford it anymore) and Prop 87 (the alternative energy bill), even though both of them won by a landslide in this city.

Oh, and confidential to [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon, who's in NJ: Jerry Brown did in fact win the Attorney General seat. But that's a no-brainer, isn't it? ;)

All in all, this is the first time in a long while where I've voted and I really felt that my vote counted. I know that sounds silly, but it's always been frustrating in the past. I wasn't kidding when I said I haven't felt this pleased about an election since 1996. It's good to know that my vote actually helped people I wanted to win, actually win.

I stayed up a bit too late last night watching CNN and watching the national returns, and I have to say I'm rather pleased by the results as well. Without getting into too much detail, having a more balanced House and Senate makes me happy. I kind of figured that the Montana and Virginia races were going to be close, as both of them were rife with controversy, but here's to hoping all works out okay. I'm personally rooting for Tester--having read some of his writeups, he looks to be a really smart and likable guy with a good head on his shoulders.

Okay, back to the real world now... :)
