1. We felt the earth below our feet
The day we heard the engines roar
The men said "I think we've got a plan"
And rushed onto the killing floor

2. By then the spires had fallen hard
By then the sky was burning black
We'd heard the voice above the pain
"I don't know if I'll be coming back"

b. The Men in White, the Men in Blue
Were busy with both me and you
As their brothers and their sisters fell
I said "please get me out of this hell"

c. How could this happen? How could this be?
How can we stop this And learn to live free?
Where are we going? Where have we been?
What are we doing? And can it happen again?

3. We saw our planes in our blue skies
Crash down into our towers strong
And then they fell before our eyes
'til one by one they all were gone

4. The ashes fell onto our streets
The broken fortress burning bright
All signs that we would not be safe
Until we had them in our sights

b. The Men in White, the Men in Blue
Were busy with both me and you
As their brothers and their sisters fell
I said "please get me out of this hell"

c. How could this happen? How could this be?
Could we have stopped this and claimed victory?
Where are we going? Where have we been?
What are we doing? And will it happen again?
