Writing Deadlines Pt II: One Year Later
Sep. 10th, 2006 07:22 pmWhile looking through older LJ posts, I found this post in which I promised I'd get Love Like Blood finished, revised, and submitted by the time the latest edition of Writer's Market, to justify buying the Deluxe Edition.
Well, at this point, I'm still not finished with the story, so obviously I haven't revised it or submitted it yet. So in that respect, I failed that deadline.
However, I think I can justify it partly because I did submit it to the writer's workshop during the Worldcon, for a number of reasons. I did revise the first chapter to a much more marketable version; I did plan and outline the rest of the story; I did get professional feedback on what to save and what to change; and most importantly, I realized just how far I've gotten in my writing--I'm farther along than I thought I was.
So I may not have hit the self-imposed deadline, but I've gotten closer, and with better output than if I'd just written straight out without any planning or careful revising. And I do think that I should buy the new edition, now that it came out just last month.
More on this later... :)
