Weird Work Hours...sort of
Aug. 21st, 2006 08:22 amI haven't held "normbal" work hours in a long time. I think the last time I started work around 9am was at the record store, back in the late 90s (this was before my schedule got FUBAR'd by others). Once I started at YCC it went away, and my definition of "normal" became jobs that start before 8am and end in the mid-afternoon.
Starting today, my new hours are 9:30am to 6pm. I am so not used to working so late...for the last I don't know how many years, I've been used to getting out of work when it was still light out and it gave me time to do stuff in the afternoon and still get writing done at night. Now, however, I think I might have to change that.
The first thing I'm going to force myself to do is write in the morning before I go to work. I don't have to worry about a long commute, so I have until at least 8:30 to work on stuff. The train ride actually gets me there a good half hour early, so I can use that time by either preparing myself for work or sitting in the cafeteria on the 9th floor and doing some longhand work. I haven't quite decided what I'll work on, but I do have some IWN ideas that I could use, so maybe (at least for now) I'll go with that. That would leave a lot less time at night, minus stopping to eat, so I think I may have to use the nighttime to finish off what I'd started that day or maybe even use it to read instead. Not sure about that; we'll see what happens when we get to it.
I'm not doing anything about it this week, as we're heading to WorldCon on Wednesday, but I'm going to at least get myself into the habit of waking up when
emmalyon does so A)I don't sleep the morning away and B)I don't end up staying up way too late at night. I'm married now, I gotta keep Emm company at least some of the time! :p
Okay, off to work...
