A little while back I was looking over
dhio's web comic, Fallen (a must-read, btw), and something's been nagging at me ever since.
Back when I was in college I used to do little thumbnail sketches in the margins of my notebooks during class, and a frequent character I drew was a guy who was my alter ego, Simon "Murph" Murphy. His first appearance was as an attempt at drawing a cartoony Daniel Ash-type goth (I was listening to Love & Rockets at the time, I believe). It was a sort of "Jonc as Goth if he ever tried to be one" thing. Soon the Goth idea was dropped and Murph was born as a goofy, smartass guy who always came up with good, funny lines ("Well, you're just a barrel full of rabid monkeys today, aren't you?") and non sequiturs ("Algebra! Yes! That'll show 'em..."). I even had a goofy plot idea where he would become King of the USA (a convoluted plot but funny anyway). A few of my friends are in it, including
head58 as Mitch Adams. I never did get around to making a full-fledged comic, but I did do a lot of one-shot drawings in various places with Murph saying some sort of funny comment.
So now that I've read Fallen, I'm tempted to pick it up again at some point when I have the time and not doing eighty thousand things at once. All I'd need is Photoshop, one of those mechanical pencils she was talking about on her site, and have at it. If I get around to it I should probably dig up some of my drawings, scan them and put them on the site. It's very tempting...and if anyone has any suggestions as to what kind of mechanical pencil(s) I should get (hint hint,
dhio :p ), I could probably go from there.
More on this later...
