First and foremost: WIRE came out with a new cd! EEEEEEEEE! Yes, for those who are wondering, Wire are my favorite band just under The Beatles. It's not so much a new cd as it is a live recording from 1979 from a German show called Rockpalast. These guys are just brilliant songwriters...I believe they're one of the original bands where "angular" became a description for their kind of stuff. The cd is great (I'm listening to it now), and it's unintentionally funny because the audience doesn't quite know how to react on the first few songs because they stop so suddenly.

...just thinking about someone I met online some time ago who ended up being the complete antithesis of who I thought they'd be. Apparently they have no patience for people who supposedly have less intelligence than them. Recently read their blog and was rather shocked and surprised to see them flaming others in the site we frequent (yeah, I'm being vague here); basically lauding their closest friends and telling the rest they could f*** off. Not that I was part of the people being flamed--the indication that they pretty much ignore me in the chat room leads me to believe I don't even merit an acknowledgement--but the fact that they made some rather snide comments about one of my online friends while they were in the room kind of annoyed me. I won't even go how said person was even worse on their blog. Now I pose this question--why is it that some people who pride themselves on being intelligent can't stand the sight of people who may or may not be on the same level? I dunno...just one of those odd things, y'know?

Just sent off the novel I'd been reading and critiquing over the last few weeks. The author is J.J. Jones and the working title of her novel is Dock 19. If--make that when--that novel gets published, I highly recommend it. It's smart, quirky, and downright laugh-my-ass-off funny.

Overheard on 'Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me' on NPR today(paraphrased):

"...Bush and Kerry will go neck and neck during the third debate, and when it seems that neither of them are going to give up, President Bush will get all worked up and blurt out 'Duck Season! Fire!'"

I love that show. :D

Also heard on NPR today on All Things Considered was a little end-of-show piece about David Hollander, a man who collects library records. Not records formerly from a library, but records of instrumentals by various anonymous studio musicians that were specifically recorded for films and whatnot, basically incidental music. Quite an interesting piece--this guy has over 3,000 albums of this stuff, including a piece from the early 70s that ended up being the Judge Wapner theme. This just goes to show that Lynxie and I aren't the only ones collecting completely obscure music.

Hey! I only have 4 avatars right now. Any suggestions for the remaining eleven are quite welcome. I'm looking for a good assortment of pix that run the gamut (what the hell does that mean, anyway?) of moods. Sort of like what head58 has going. And of course, any goofy pix are welcome too.
