Windows

Whew! One of those busy Mondays where I had so much stuff I had to wade through that the work day was over and done before I had a chance to gripe about it! :-) All in all a very productive day.

Got new windows for the basement! WOOOT! Our very old windows were so old ("How old were they?")...they were so old that they didn't really have a slide frame to them--ask head58, he's seen them. They were basically windows held there literally by nails. The new ones are very nice, much easier to open and spiderweb-free! I noticed last night that there's a distinct lack of draft down here now, so hopefully that will cut down the heat bill considerably this winter. We also got the remaining windows for the upstairs apartment where my grandmother used to live, and they too look very nice.

Speaking of which, my sister has been renovating up there over the past month (she'll be moving up there at some future point), and is about halfway done with the kitchen. It used to be this pale yellow with that fake yellow tile (though it's darker due to many years of cigarette smoke), but after a few washings with trisodium phosphate (TSP kicks ass!) and a few coats of white paint, it looks amazing up there.

In other news...

My other sister bought herself a mandolin. I plan on learning "Losing My Religion" at some future point now. ;) Or maybe a bluegrass version of "Don't Stop Believin'." Heh!

Broke down and bought a few cds this weekend. Recently bought the new Interpol. I might have to get used to this one, as I held Turn on the Bright Lights in such high esteem for so long, but I did like it quite a bit. I also picked up a cd from a band called West Indian Girl. Think shoegaze crossed with laid-back California surf. It's an odd combination but it fits perfectly. A very cool disc. And to continue with my old-school habits, I picked up the 2nd Blood Sweat & Tears cd (the self-titled one with "Spinning Wheel" on it). I grew up listening to that album (my oldest sis had the lp, I believe), and it still holds up surprisingly well.

Okay, that's enough for now. Got some serious critiquing to do for a fellow writer...
