More New England Pictures

As the visit itself isn't too newsworthy (aside from getting to see a lot of family and friends after a very long time, which was a great treat), I've decided I'm just going to share more pictures with people...
Part I: Local Foliage
On Friday, after going out to dinner with the family, Emm and I searched around for a few places to take pictures of foliage. As it was very close to dusk, we didn't get too many pictures, but I did get a few good shots (and a few arty pix as well):
A large tree behind Athol High School. We took this in the Lake Ellis parking lot, which is right behind the school.

Another tree in the same parking lot, looking southeast. Up over the hill is the AHS parking lot and further down, the sports fields.

Arty Shot I: Sun through the trees, looking west across Lake Ellis.

Arty Shot II: We stopped briefly at Tully Dam, but it was getting a little too dark by the time we got there, so we missed some nice colors up there. However, I got this nice shot of our rental car (a swank Chrysler Sebring). I may just use this as computer wallpaper at some point.

Part II: On the way to
head58 and
aliwings's house
We took one of my old commute drives on our way down to Hopkinton, heading down Route 140 past Mount Wachusett, Princeton and Boylston, enjoying the views. Much reminiscing done by me, of course, pointing out various points in the drive. My one aim was actually to head to Wachusett Reservoir in West Boylston, specifically the Old Stone Church that's out on a little grassy area where Routes 12 and 140 meet up. Apparently it's the only building remaining in the area from the time before the reservoir. After so many years of driving past it on the way to or from the record store and never stopping, it was cool to finally be stopping there...
Here's the church:

And a rather dark peek inside (yes, I used my flash):

...and looking back towards the doorway (basically I went to the opposite corner and aimed at were I'd been standing):

...and looking out the window to the west, looking out at the shore of the reservoir...

...and an extremely shiny-looking tree in full-foliage color!

Part III: In Harvard Square with Dae (and some source shots for Love Like Blood)
Somehow I knew that
brokenempathy and
emmalyon would get along like gangbusters. The three of us had fun on Sunday afternoon, driving into the Boston area and hanging out. Things have changed a bit, one being that it looks like the T is trying in vain to do away with subway tokens by using the Charlie Ticket. Which is funny, considering that the kiosks are all set up at Alewife (where we parked) but not at most of the other Red Line stops.
But anyhoo...I would have taken a picture of Daedalus, but Emm took care of that. I just have to snag the picture from her at some point. My first shot, the Harvard Book Store, which seems to have taken over as the premier book store from Wordsworth (which is sadly no longer there):

Now, for a few source shots for my book. This here is the center of the Square, looking at the back part of the T station roof and, mainly, the Pit. This is were most of the alt.hoodlums and the skatepunks hang out. Not the best shot, but this is where Gabriel and his Enclave friends hang out most of the time:

Next up, the shot of Lehman Hall, where many of Duncan's Undead like to hang out. It's across the street from the Pit (in fact, you're looking at where I was standing in the last shot). Just far enough away to be separate from the Enclavers, but still able to watch them if necessary.

Another shot of the Pit. It's called such because it's a lowered section of the Square, where the main T station sits. The squat greyish building in the middle distance is a little shopping/retail area with an Au Bon Pain (don't see those around SF!!). There's a scene in that area where Gabriel and Elise (one of Cassandra's friends) have a serious talk about things to come.

Another staple of the Pit, Out of Town News. Great selection of reading material here, including the music mag that has the vicious Zoe Davis article that Gabriel reads at one point.

Down the road in Cambridge Common, there's a scene where Gabriel temporarily hides behind this Civil War Statue while running towards Paolo's apartment in search of Cassandra. Come to find out, it was only Goth Boy following him. :)
(note to
vampyrusgirl: this was the statue I was talking about in a much earlier post...)

...aaaand, once more, Dae and I hanging at the Pit. She makes not one but two cameos in Love Like Blood and I thank her for giving me quite a bit of info about the vampire community so I didn't end up writing yet another Blade or Underworld uber-serious novel. Couldn't have done it without ya, Dae! :)

Oh, and one for the road:

Apparently someone wanted to come back to California with us.
