So Emm and I decided to take a trip with some of my recently purged cds down to Rasputin, which is at the end of the cable car line on Powell Street. Like any used record store, what price they give you depends on how much they need the title. Unlike other used stores I've been to back east, Rasputin buys their cds from customers by way of scanning the title into the system, giving an already set price, which I think is rather cool. I think I only brought about 60 or so titles (and one copy of The Fifth Element that we had a double of), but I ended up getting $175 in store credit!! SWEET!

So of course we blew it all in one go.

Of course, we have to, if we get store credit--we have to spend the entire credit in one go, because they don't give out change, and they don't break it down little by little. Cool idea, though, and I was very impressed by how quick and efficient their system is.

So here's what we got:

Beck, The Information
Indigo Girls, Despite Our Differences
Jet, Shine On
The Killers, Sam's Town
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stadium Arcadium
TV on the Radio, Return to Cookie Mountain

as well as...
X-Men III: The Last Stand
V for Vendetta
and
Doctor Who: The Complete First Series box set. (Yeah, I'm surprised too, but we just recently watched an episode on Sci-Fi and we were greatly impressed. This is the first new season with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor.)

...meaning that we spent the entire store credit AND spent an additional $50. But the fact that we got so much for so little makes me extremely happy... :)

Now if we could only do something about that jackass whose car alarm keeps going off every ten frikkin' minutes because someone breathed on it wrong...

That's so cool! I want to get the new Beck cd partially because of the cool album cover art you can make.

Aww well I feel so jealous :b.

I wish I had a record store like that. The closest I've got is FYE & Sam Goody. Pfft.

Don't know if you're interested but Tower Records is closing (http://enjoydivision.livejournal.com/24980.html) ()

Re: Tower--Yeah, I saw some guy standing on the corner today with a picket sign saying about as much...there's one down my street that we haven't yet gone to, but I don't think I'm going to miss anything...their prices have been a bit too high for quite some time.

(Okay, that sounded snobbish, but I'm so used to going to indy stores that Tower has sort of become kinda 'meh' to me over the years.)

I wonder if there's a Virgin Megastore in your area...that store is actually quite good...have you Googled any used/indy places yet?

Yeah I can see what you mean. I should venture out though & look for some. I've googled & primarily they're in Chicago. Well it does have a great musical vibrance so I can see why. It'd take me an hour to get to any of the record stores :/....Although I might go downtown tomorrow & it would be the perfect time to scour for some record stores (& dump some unwanted cds). Actually there's a Virgin Megastore....but it's in Chicago. Will plan to see it though! But as for now, my closest consumption to indie stores is...sadly, Borders.

Really?!?? I can kinda see that happening...I'm wondering, though, where the Walk of Fame stars are going to go when they do close...

I suppose that means that Newbury is going to get even more crowded, isn't it? ;)
