jon_chaissonHeard that there was a fire in Berkeley Hills (across the bay) so I thought I'd look it up on the KRON4 site (my chosen tv channel for news), and didn't find anything. However, looking at the Live Traffic tab, I found this:

I 280 SB Southbound at CUNNINGHAM WY
Slow traffic: SOME 500 GOATS WERE IN THE ROADWAY...CAL TRANS HIRED THE GOATS TO EAT UP THE BRUSH ON THE HILLSIDE...THE CHP IS HAVING A PROBLEM CLOSING THE GATES DUE TO POISON OAK...(2048)
Ummm....Okay...
(For the record, it was in San Mateo, which is immediately south of us, but still...)
ETA: WAIT! It gets better! Guess where they get the goats from?
And now that I've posted this, I remembered that they had a story about this in the Chronicle a few months before we moved out here. So yeah, this is not a joke. CalTrans actually does use goats for their DPW crew. ;)
