After much fretting and hoping that I'd be hearing from Worldcon, I finally got the package in the mail, confirming that yes, I will in fact be attending the workshop! I'll be meeting up with two other participants, three industry professionals (after a little Googling I find that it will be two published authors and an agent) and a moderator for a three hour chat session.

What will happen is that we'll all meet on Saturday (my group, anyway), having read the submissions of the other two participants and come prepared with critiques. Then each will take their turn being in the "hot seat" while the rest of the room gives their verbal critique. The one stipulation being that said hot-seated person (that doesn't sound right, does it...) cannot defend/complain/whine unless permitted to do so.

This is my first non-college, non-Forward Motion-related critique, and also my first done by a professional (in this case, three) in the industry. Sure, I'm a bit nervous, but moreover I'm absolutely thrilled that I was accepted for it, and I'm seeing this as an important experience in my writing career. Who knows? Maybe something might come out of it.

Wish me luck! :)

You no I had NO DOUBT you would get picked for this, yes?
And don't worry, after *my* critique, this will be a cakewalk.

You just like the "not able to defend himself unless permitted" part. :)

Well, remember I'm a typical writer who has no idea whether or not his writing is any good... ;) But thanks for all of that, sweetie! *MWAH!*

Interesting way to do critiquing. I hope the people around the circle aren't asses. There will be one, you know. There always is. I've done these sorts of things a bit in grad school (they were called Quaker Circles, which gives me all sorts of images of folks in bonnets and hats with sticks and ropes creating patterns in cornfields...) and they were always pretty rough.

All that being said, this is an awesome opportunity. AND your stuff is damn good, so what do you have to worry about? Good luck!!!

Well, that's kinda sorta how it should be, in my opinion, but not everyone runs with it that way. I'm expecting it to be tense, but I'm sure I'll come out of it having learned a good bit.

And thanks! I almost forgot you've been one of my earliest readers (one of the first victims viewers of the original IWN). :)

Heh--and of course after getting a horrendous critique, I'll stand up, point offscreen, and say "Screw you guys, I'm going home!" :p

Thanks! :)
