Happy July 4th and all that.

I dunno why, I just don't feel all that patriotic today, even with it being Independence Day. It might be because I've been seeing this long weekend as time away from work (and well-earned time at that). It certainly isn't because of Michael Moore, I can tell you that. No, just don't feel all that excited about being proud to be an American right now. Go figure.

Sure, call it ennui. Call it Gen-X disappointment. Call it mistrust in the current administration.

Me? I'm just calling it The Return of Jonc's Goth Tendencies, aka "The Moody Morose Bastard". Just feeling generally annoyed with the world at the moment. And in a very weird, almost transcendental way, it feels liberating. Like I should have felt this way so many times before when I ended up muting it and putting on the peacekeeper face instead. *sigh* Maybe I'll go upstairs, climb into bed, throw on the new Cure cd, and write some bad poetry.

Gothic Personals. Linked by the NIN site, believe it or not. Heh.

Speaking of things Goth, pt. 2:

Just thought of something...what if I went to work on Wednesday with black-dyed and spiked hair, black fingernails, basically the whole getup? Just wondering what the general reaction would be, considering the redneck quotient where I work... :p Hey, at least the Doc Martens I have are already steel-toes, so there ya go.

David Lee Roth at the Hatch Shell tonight. Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops has now officially jumped the shark. *sigh* I'm going to hide now.

David Lee Roth with the Pops? Mercy, I can't even begin to express how disturbing that is to me. Oy. It makes even *I* myself want to go put on the Cure and hide, possibly UNDER the bed (hey, there's the cat!).
:-)
And as for patriotism: the more the f***ers try to mess up my country, the more it makes me want to do whatever I need to to defend it. Dammit, this is a NICE PLACE, really. They need to quit screwing it up an ooze back under their respective rocks. Gah.

See, I just don't see the need to defend it as much as we are. Sure, we're defending it from those sneaky al-Qaeda bastards, and we're defending it from Iraqi militants (who are basically just pissed off that we bombed their country first...go figure).

Hell, I went outside and went to a supermarket where it was packed yesterday. Was I worried that some terrorist was going to blow up the local Shop 'n Save? Nope. To paraphrase head58's critique of my Infamous War Novel so many years ago... "why in hell would they want to take over a small town like Athol, anyway?" Certainly not for the beer, I'd guess.

Okay, end of rant. :D

I think you misunderstand me--I'm more concerned about the threats from within. Within the White House, Capitol Hill, etc etc etc.
Erode MY civil rights, yah bastids? I'll show 'em.....
